Lots of departures from the book in this most recent episode. Some I thought were well done, some I have no clue why they did them.
Also, mmmmmmmm Ygrette. Would smash.

What was with the ending of the episode with Daenyris in Qarth, I literally sat there for a few minutes thinking "That wasn't in the book....was it?".
Did I miss the memo ?

No, it was not in the book. But then I struggled to understand what was going on in the book with the warlocks - the TV version makes the motivations a little more transparent.

Re: Game of Thrones
cliff hangers x4. they sure know how to get you hooked. wonder if reading the books might spoil everything.
edit: As I was watching the end of the episode, I was fairly certain that *they* got away(not wanting to spoil anything) and all's good. then I remembered that the author was not too squeamish of killing off people in the books, not even the people that seemed to be the main leads(unlike other authors, which btw is an interesting thing). Upon realizing this I just sat there for about 10 minutes thinking, damn I really hope they didn't die, did they? maybe I should have read the books. Darn it .. another week to find out.

After the first season, I just had to read the books in order to learn what happened next. But the story is sufficiently rich and the TV production so strong, that I don't think reading the books has diminished my enjoyment. If you'd read the Lord of the Rings before watching the movies, it is very analogous to that.

I still think that I would have enjoyed the LotR movies more had I not read the books beforehand, and been thinking "why was that missing, hey they forgot that scene that is really fun etc." all the time.

I think Sam not running saved his life as the White Walker "leader" didn't saw him as a threat and continued on..
Oh man those little bugger drakes certainly can breathe..
10 more months to next season..

And a lot of different writers, but that is normal. Let a director or writer focus on making three episodes awesome instead of making him spread his efforts over three times as many makes for better TV.

I wish they had extended a bit on the House of the Undying, but it was a really good episode anyway. Good thing True Blood is starting next week, otherwise I'd be bored to death this summer!

It has been summer for over ten years, I don't think another couple of months is really going to make much of a difference.
In case you guys haven't seen them, check out this series of animated parodies, they are brilliant:
