FFVII would "Kill the Franchise"
So Square-Enix has stated they refuse to make a FFVII remake, until they create a FF game BETTER than VII.
Stating that remaking VII Before then would "Kill the Franchise"
I guess no one at SE played IX or VIII or (in my personal opinion) XIII-2
Regardless of your personal opinion of which FF is the best, I think we can all agree this just proves that Square-Enix HQ must be filled with retards.

That's just like Sakaguchi refusing to play FF12+.
VII is nothing special. What they mean is probably "more popular"

Re: FFVII would "Kill the Franchise"
I think it's pretty special in that it is many people's "Favorite:Read ONLY" FF game. It holds a lot of market power.
I for one, would loveee to play a FFVII Remake. I'd love it! I spent a lot of hours in VII, as in VIII and IX as well. But in that hope, I'd love to see a current graphics remake of them all!
Also; what do you mean refusing to play 12+?

Sakaguchi, original ideator of the FF saga, was outed after he dipped into filmmaking (spirits within) with horrible results, during FFX's developement.
Went to found his studio (Mistwalker, which has, to date, put out games that would've been really good 20 years ago) and refused to play FF XII, or anything after it, on godknows what grounds.

Re: FFVII would "Kill the Franchise"
Probably some trumped up excuse that boils down to basically "because I didn't make the game".

Meh, could.
Or, he's stuck-up on WAIT WAIT THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE TURN BASED FIGHTNING THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE.
His main game, Lost Odyssey, feels like a really dragged-out combination of Legend of Dragoon and FFVI, with horrible (horrible) character design.
It was actually decent, but god, the character design. It looked like the main character washed his air with oil.

Re: FFVII would "Kill the Franchise"
I like that they've been remaking all the older ones from the SNES era with updated graphics for the Nintendo DS, PSP, Wii store, etc. I was kind of hoping for a FF6 revamp but they kind of already did on the Playstation. Revamp complete with cutscenes and obscene loading times! I guess you can count the Gameboy Advance version too with its bonus dungeon and all that.
Nostalgia sells. I think it would be a blatant money grab but an updated FFVII would sell pretty decently. If they added the ability to fast forward through summon animations, I'd be happy with a remake

Skipping the Knights of the Round summon animation would be sacrilege!
I would certainly buy a remake. I don't know why, but for me the setting and characters of FFVII were fantastic. Loved that game and Barret's block hands.

The only thing I remember from the final fight in the game? Not the boss or background or music. Knights of the Round. Over and over again. Who needs strategy?

Re: FFVII would "Kill the Franchise"
I never finished FFVII. I finished disc 1, then got kinda lost at the start of disc 2 (I had control of a ship, I think, and no idea which direction I was meant to go to continue the plot).
My first FF was VIII, followed by IX and X as they came out. By the time I got to VII, I was in the stage where I lose interest less than half way through any FF game. (I've played and not finished I, II, III, IV, V, VI (all PS1 re-releases), VII, and XII. I've never finished a second play of any FF I did finish, either.)

I'm a huuuuuuuge steampunk fan, so the best universes were surely IX and XII.
I didn't like VII/VIII animation at all, too sci-fy for FF.
