Final Fantasy IX
Per the norm, I got an itch this weekend to rummage through my good ol’ games. Another trip through memory lane occurred when I found my copy of FF9 (now over 10 years old? WOW). This was actually my first Final Fantasy experience which hooked me and had me play hopscotch between the different versions.
My dilemma was that while I still have a handful of my old PSX games I don’t have a PlayStation. Luckily after an hour or two of fiddling I was able to get ePSXe (PlayStation Emulator) working.
I was like a kid in a candy store for like 3-4 hours last night as I just sat there with my usb controller playing it.

FF9 was a pretty good game. I just hated the card game in it. After the awesomeness that was triple triad in FF8, this was a huge letdown. To this day it still slightly bugs me.
Other than that, I like most of FF9. Vivi is the man.

I never really understood how FF9 game card worked, yet I've won several games and rare cards o_o

Re: Final Fantasy IX
It is the greatest game ever.
Period.
PS: The cards are pretty awesome, if you manage to understand them. It's not simple, but in the age of the internet... ;p

I remember it taking a while to get the hang of it, but I recall that once I did, I felt it was infinitely better than Triple Triad.Worldie wrote:I never really understood how FF9 game card worked, yet I've won several games and rare cards o_o

Re: Final Fantasy IX
Quotes from:
Uematsu: "FF IX's score is probably my best work"
Sakaguchi (Although i kind of hate the guy now): "My favourite episode of my saga"
Production:
"When FFIX was coming out, we told Uematsu we needed a score, and that he had about a year to make it. A theme for every character, plus the usual arrangements, plus some extras would be okay, around 40 total.
After a year, he came at us with 169 pieces of music. We had problems to even fit it in the discs"
Hellah, i completed that game 17 times and never beat Ozma. I grew up with it.
Just need a CRT television and i'm doing another round as soon as the exams are done...

Re: Final Fantasy IX
A long long time ago, I did the full game, defeating Ozma with a team of 4 chars that could hit 9999* and facerolling all the final bosses with the same setup. Great game, but as with all the FF games, whenever I try to replay I lose interest about halfway through.
(*If I remember rightly, Zidane had one Trance move that could do it, Freya had a dragon-breath or something, Steiner with some sword attack, and I'm not sure what the fourth was, either Vivi or Quina. Took lots of attempts and some luck. Actually now I think on it at least some of my attempts were with Vivi Meteoring for less than 9999, but I may have also powerlevelled Quina for a special Eaten move after that.)

Re: Final Fantasy IX
You had done the "gem monsters"?
Also, 9999 hitting is normal, but Ozma auto-heals after every attack for ~7000. So 66k hp last a bit long ;p

No idea. Long, long time ago, so not sure I remember what you're referring to. Don't think I had 100% of things completed.
As for 9999 being normal, I seem to remember it taking me a while to get a full team that could do it every round, and they all only had one attack that could. Can't remember much else about that Ozma fight, just that it was tricky to survive.
Think I had all the Chocobo treasure hunts done, killed Ozma and Hades, not sure if I got all the ultimate weapons, didn't get the special weapon that you can only get if you complete in a limited time...

Re: Final Fantasy IX
old thread but since I came to poke at this forum I couldn't just pass over a thread dedicated to one of my favorite games of all time. Shout outs to Zidane, the best main character since Cecil.
