Diablo III - who's in?
About to go pick up Diablo III. Who is all going to play? Any particular server if that's how it's setup. Hope the game is up to all the hype and anticipation.

The game uses battletags, unique IDs assigned to each battle.net account. You can play solo or with up to 3 other people. Look in the other games forum for a few threads on it.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

This. It's so much more simple and relaxing than WoW and it's pretty! Corpses flying everywhere kind of pretty!

Not me, yet.
I have it from the Annual Pass, but, haven't bothered with it yet. If Panda starts looking like it's going to be dropping in Oct or Nov instead of Aug or Sept, I'll likely take a serious look at it.

Trying to finish diablo 2 before playing 3 and, to be honest, I'm not really seeing the appeal =/

Solo or in a group?
Group is much more fun than solo.
The fun comes in chaining abilities together.
My Barbarian leaps into a mass of enemies gaining armor to survive the coming assault, he then ground stomps stunning and pulling in all nearby enemies, he then uses Revenge dealing damage to all enemies in range and healing himself for each target hit and then goes into a devastating whirlwind finishing the rest off.

Ah, well, as a paladin I... autoattack things? So far at least, I'm only like level 11 or so. I browsed around the internets for good builds and from what the wiki says, I should be putting points into abilities that I don't even have yet, and I'm slightly confused, am I supposed to wait until I hit a higher level to use skill points at all? Or do I respec somehow when I get a higher level?

I always felt paladins felt a bit gimped in D2, whereas their spiritual successor in D3, Monks, feels utterly overpowered!

Wiki Answers wrote:To reset your Stats/Skills, there are two methods.
1: Complete the Den of Evil quest on either normal, nightmare or hell difficulty. Once you visit Akara in the Rogue Encampment, she will offer you the ability to reset your Stats/Skills. This can only be done once per difficulty.
2: In Hell Difficulty: Slay Andariel or Duriel for a "Twisted Essence of Suffering". Slay Mephisto for a "Charged Essence of Hatred". Slay Diablo for a "Burning Essence of Terror". Slay Baal for a "Festering Essence of Destruction". Once you have one of each essence, place them in the Horadric Cube and click "Transmute". You will be given a "Token of Absolution" which upon consumption, resets your Stats/Skills.

Keep in mind, D2 is not D3. Yes, there is still the spam clickiness, but the abilities and such are a lot different (and in a lot of cases more interesting, IMO.) So if you can survive through the D2 experience (assuming you're deadset on finishing it before trying D3), you may find that D3 is more interesting to you.

The wiki he linked suggests that paladins (specifically "hammerdins") were the most played class, so some people apparently didn't find them gimped

Re: Diablo III - who's in?
We're just starting Act 3 with our Baba/Wizz combo, and my system is globaly similar to Flex's: Jump in the fray, debuff/stun/snare everything close, but I go for Revenge when up and Frenzy otherwise, both with self-heal runes. This gives me staying power out the wazoo, and the lost offensive ability is taken over by the Wizz who's safe to spam all hell in my general vicinity.
Hell, I think I eated half a dozen Crazed Fallen Champions and was still standing (although a tactical retreat was necessary :-p )

Re: Diablo III - who's in?
I got the game with the annual pass, but so far have logged an impressive 3 mins.
The initial problem for me is the absence of a shield tank/paladin type class - a barbarian is close to an anti-paladin to me in aesthetics. An issue compounded by the lack of character appearance customisation. (The Schwarzenegger-sized female barbarian is close to an anti-female blood elf in aesthetics!)
Then when I load the game, I find no way to zoom or rotate the camera. That would be fine for a Baldur's Gate style old school RPG with interesting dialogue and quests, but is rather off-putting for an action RPG, a genre which I am tilted against from the get-go.
The WoW insider warning about getting a new disposable mouse because you are going to break it also is a turn-off, given I've recently invested in a beautiful Razor Naga and reminds me of my tilt against hack n slash fare.
I heard there were rumours of a shield-plate class being in the expansion; I may look at it again if there is.

Maybe roll with a Monk?
They apparently go 1H + Shield.
Some of the high-level armor are pretty plate-y too.

Pretty sure that every class in D3 can wear plate and use 1h/shield. I know my Wizard is - and if a Wiz can do it, anyone can.
