Elder Scrolls MMO

Postby Flex » Thu May 03, 2012 1:27 pm

Story

With a planned Mac client from day 1.

Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story – as well as a peek at the player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself.

I was interested in it until I saw that Matt Firor was going to be involved. Now it's a "definitely avoid" for me.
- I'm not Jesus, but I can turn water into Kool-Aid.
- A Sergeant in motion outranks an officer who doesn't know what the hell is going on.
- A demolitions specialist at a flat run outranks everybody.

I was interested until they actually announced how the game would play. You'd expect an Elder Scrolls MMO to be a sandbox MMO but nope, they're going for a progression-based MMO.

Amirya:Why yes, your penis is longer than his because you hit 30k dps in the first 10 seconds. But guess what? That raid boss has a dick bigger than your ego.
Flex:I don't make mistakes. I execute carefully planned strategic group wipes.

I have a huge issue with prequel games for that very reason.

Given what they've announced as goals, style, etc I'm not even slightly interested tbh.

I'm a fan of the franchise. I will be taking a look, if only to turn away after in disgust. Still, if the approach is fresh enough, and the gameplay is strong enough, and they make addons usable from the beginning, I could see myself seriously considering a swap, or at least it taking a chunk of my personal time that I give to WoW.

I do also like there being 3 factions as opposed to 2.

Well, I'll probably check it out. I've enjoyed the Elder Scrolls games - not loved, but certainly enjoyed. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

This franchise has consistently prioritized marketing, glitz, and shiny new (half-baked) features over testing, stability, and fixing game-stopping defects. I shudder to think of the chaos that will ensue when their attractive, but shoddy workmanship meets massively multiplayer.

MMO not being developed by Bethesda. Your worries may be unfounded.

The MMO doesn't really interest me either but I'll follow it as it is being developed.
