However we don't know anything about magic, let alone how to run a tournament...
Luckily the store right next door runs them weekly, and last saturday they dominated the entire food court.

That gets us out of running something we don't know how to just for "free" advertising, but it also frees up floor space that would have previously gone to magic card sales. Plus eventually we can hopefully return the favor, someone coming in for comics goes "Whoa! I love magic, let's check that other place out"

Hopefully it goes together like Eddie Brock and a symbiote.
Well, maybe not...

I can help you with this if required. I am a MTG judge and a former Tourney Organiser with 20+ years experiance of running Warhammer/MTG events.

If next door is running MTG events then it isn't a good idea to run them, all you do is split the playerbase and that isn't good for the game or the players. It sounds like you have a crossover audience which is awesome though.

I wouldn't get involved in Warhammer events either as they never go smoothly as people always rules lawyer each other.

If you do decide to get involved with either product at a tournement level your 1st move is to find a local judge people like and respect [this is REALLY important] and let them take all the stress of judging the event from you. You will have to pay them, but it is definately not something you want to get involved in if you have a new shop and no tournement organiser experiance.

If you want to sell MTG singles you will need to compete with Star City Games so I suggest you check out their website before deciding if you can commit the money and time to play in that sort of league. It isn't something you can do half heartedly, either do it well or not at all.

If you need more info please PM me and I will help in anyway I can.

You wouldn't want to be a retail store for GW anyway. I've seen a number of those go belly-up because of GW's rather draconian sales policy regarding retail outlets (minimum sales have to be met, and that's difficult, because 40k stuff doesn't exactly fly off shelves).

However, in a mall store with a lot of foot traffic, it might be possible to do fairly well, even as a retailer. You could offer a steep discount (GW products wholesale at 60% MSRP) for orders, and sell the stock at full price for the people with kids that come into your shop. Pay a professional painter to paint a couple of the more impressive models for you, and that should sell most of the boxes fairly well, especially during the holiday seasons and when school isn't in session. That's how I got started into the hobby - same one that I've dropped well over $50k on over the last 20 years. I went into a Games Workshop store at the mall and bought a space marine tactical squad box.

It can be frightening to see a dollar amount put to your hobby. I don't even want to think about how much I've spent on video games, guitars and my car over the years....

I've only tracked my hobby/entertainment spending for the last 18 years or so, but looking at it now I've spent a little over $200k on movies, restaurants and games etc.

I put one up on e-bay and I'm soooo tempted to keep the other one. It plays the cantina band jingle and lights up lol.

I can't get that jingle out of the head.
