Re: [10H] Madness of deathwing
So, I need someone to check my math. I think it's wrong but I'm trying to understand why I didn't survive an impale.
840000 damage before reduction
44k armor (62% reduction)
CDs used were AD, Unglyphed DP, Stay of Execution
I'm not accounting for the 10% damage reduction from the Disc Priest.
840000-520800(62% armor reduction) = 319200
319200-95740(30% damage reduction provided by AD/DP [Or are the two additive making it 40%?]) = 223440
223440-57000 (Stay absorb) = 166440 damage unmitigated.
The hit was 244k which was a 3k overkill on me and I was topped off.

20% + 20% + trinket is not enough. Don't ask why I don't know
use 50% + 20% + trinket =)
If you don't have your Goak, use pain sup or switch tank on first impale

Impale is NOT mitigated by armor. How you got to 244k I don't know (napkin math gets me to 334k based on your provided cd's), perhaps shield+aegis, and do you have a paladin healer with illuminated healing?
On a separate note, has anyone attempted 2 tanking/3 healing after the recent +5%/10% total nerf?

Re: [10H] Madness of deathwing
AD and DP should add up to 36% reduction, not 30% as in Fenrir's post. (0.8*0.8 = 0.64).

Hrm, didn't know that armor didn't work. WoL has the kill at 229k hit with 77k overkill. But I do remember seeing 244k on the screen.
And no, we had no holy paladin for this weekend; just a resto doo-dad, disc and resto sham with a feral doo-dad and myself, prot paladin, as the tanks.

More importantly, how big was the absorb?

Odd enough, I don't see an absorb on this death.
However, on the death before, same attempt, when I sort of flaked on clicking Dream, I got a 90k absorb.

Re: [10H] Madness of deathwing
If there's no absorb then at least three things went wrong: you didn't use your absorb trinket, you didn't WoG yourself, and your disc priest didn't put a pw:s on you during the 5 second impale channel. I don't understand how the overkill would be so small with no absorb up though - 840 * 0.9 * 0.9 * 0.9 * 0.8 * 0.8 = 392k.

Hrm, yea, makes sense. Guess it's time to actually start managing external CDs and going back to using Scales of Life > WoG.

Re: [10H] Madness of deathwing
Hi,
we're currently progressing on Madness with 2-3-5 Setup. I'm tanking together with a feral druid who switches to cat most of the time and only takes Impales. Our cooldown management works well and we regularly see phase 2 (Green > Red > Yellow > Blue).
In phase 2 still everything is fine and we also have Bloodlust for burning the boss down after the second spawn of bloods. It seems that our main problem is that we have no reliable slow on the Congealing Bloods as always 2-3 of them are running to the boss unslowed and heal him up (last try yesterday evening 6.8 million HP). This leads up to wiping on the berserk timer. Does anyone have an idea on how to reliably slow these small adds?
Our Setup atm is:
Protection Paladin
Feral Druid
Combat Rogue
Unholy Deathknight
Shadow Priest
Arcane Mage
Demonology Warlock
Restoration Shaman
Discipline Priest
Holy Paladin
To slow the adds we used Fan of Knives and Earthbind Totem. Due to rumours that different slows would cause the adds to run at full speed between the application of the different debuffs we did not use glyphed shadowflame and cone of cold.

If you're able to meet dps requirements without 3% damage buff having the mage go fireball for blastwave would be the easiest.

Have your DK spec desecration?
When our Hunter isn't there that's what I do as my Blood DK.
I'd say have your Mage go fire and open with blast wave then cone of cold. That should give your DK enough time to spam 2-3 desecration's.
Works like a charm for us. On our last wave the Mage opens like and I proceed to proc some desecration. At that point the boss dies 4-5 seconds before the adds reach the boss.

Doesn't glyphed wrath stun them too?

Re: [10H] Madness of deathwing
Have your warlock glyph Shadowflame. It slows all targets it hits by 70% for 6 seconds. This also will proc tons and tons of spellweave for him as every tick (1 second ticks) procs spellweave on all the other adds. Since he won't need the Life Tap glyph, he can easily put Shadowflame in there.
