There was a place here when I was a teenager.

The Bone Cellar.

Now, whenever I think about it, I think about it as

The BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE CELLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!

And always in his voice.

My point, is that if you can make it sound "close" to some pre-existing "notion" in a geeks head, You win.

Maybe you can just have the simple name but on the sign put some of the key products.

The Fortress
Comics & Collectables

Could throw in a "Fantasy & Sci-Fi" maybe.. *shrug* brainstorming can be fun & frustrating all at once.

Another idea is the name is big and centered and scattered around it is the stuff. ( Periods for spacing )

.............................GAMES........................C
COLLECTABLES.......................................O
.....T........ The Fortress......M
.......O....................................................I
..........Y.............................................C
.............S.........................................S

Obviously 5 minutes with photoshop will yield much better results ;) but you get the ideas.. lol

*Edit to Add* If it was going to be a computer techy / geek shop I'd say totally go with some form of ASCII sign!

I like it. It's easy to remember ("the fortress") when asking Information or searching on the web, and it's clear that it's about comics and games by the subtext.

It's similar to:

George's
Turkish Deli

If you went with (The) Fortress you could decorate different walls (or sections?) of the store like the most famous "Fortresses" from Comics, Sci-fi, Fantasy ect ect that people may recognize?

I'm not much of a Comic person but IMO if the different sections were "housed" in or in front of a related "fortress" it would be cool..

The most obvious being DC Comics (Or however you organize comics?) being in front of or inside of a Fortress of Solitude.

Since Fortress can be used to describe so many different places you could still apply it to Thunder Cats Castle, Justice League Watchtower.

On the other hand it could be the worse idea ever.. lol

Googling "(The) Fortress" is probably going to bring up a metric SHITTON of castle links and medieval sites. Sodium 16 is probably going to be easier to find.

Also, grats Aergis and Thalia - I hope it works out for you!

Spot on, when we though of Fortress we though of all the lairs and sanctuaries of heroes and villains. Like the Fortress of Solitude, or Xavier's school for the gifted, etc etc, they all have some cool base/place to hang out.

I liked the idea of calling it "Daily Planet" and making the entrance literally a phone booth. Name tags could be press badges, newsroom style, etc.

But then it IS a bit cheesy and very specifically superman so... yeah.

Names are hard. Maintankadin came to me one day in the shower. Maybe this will come to me too when I'm not thinking about it.

Though I like the idea of the secret identity, would be cool to tie that in somehow.

How about "The Secret Identity" as the name? It's possible that I only think that's a good idea due to lack of sleep, but it strikes me as incredibly clever for some odd reason.

"Alter Ego Comics" might have a bit of a ring

Heh, or maybe even "The Phonebooth Comic Store"

I think that works. Just messing with ideas, not looking for color advice or font selections

ehhhhhhhhh

Everything about that is pretty bland, imho. Looks like the banner graphic off a Yahoo Geocities page.

I like "Alter Ego" as a store name a lot more than "Secret Identity." Shorter, snappier, more betterer sounding.

"Sodium 16" would lend itself nicely to a fun, cool j-poppy looking logo.

Aye, again I'm specifically NOT playing with colors or anything yet... It's black and white on purpose before I get distracted by details. It's only meant to toy with the idea of using the mask and eyes as a visual cue to the title.

I like alter-ego too but it does sound a bit clinical, like from a psychiatry text book.

Sodium 16 is out at this point, we've talked with many many people now and they just don't get it. Originally we thought would be ok anyway but now are leaning towards making sure the title also does have relevance to the subject, rather than "random-thing comics"

Oh I know, I wasn't commenting on that. I just meant everything about it was kinda "meh." The name, the logo, the layout, everything about it was just kinda... pretty much the epitome of generic comic book store. Defly not up to par for you, lol.

imo.
