I'd prolly staff at a con if I lived near a major con.

The closest one to me is A-kon, and that one is 6-7 hours.

cons are once a year at best...and far far away...

...would be nice to have an "oldtimers" anime-group around here, but with only 300k inhabitants, that's probably too much to ask...

Seen Shana 1&2, I guess I'll have to see 3 as well to get closure.

My wife pretty much Thinks Poorly of me watching anime. We liked the Macross series, but it's hard to pitch the case for ${Random Anime Series} here -- especially when just about everything Netflix lists seems like it's about sex or schoolgirls or both. =/

You need to go for slice-of-life stuff, like Bartender, who is about drinks. Yes, I am not kidding.

If she likes Supernatural, you could show her Supernatural:The Animation =P

Find and feed her the artsy stuff if that's what she's into, and use that as a gateway drug. It's harder to find interesting series aimed at a more mature market, but there's still plenty of it there. Judging the entire genre based on what Netflix has is like judging all Americans by daytime TV.

I know I went to one in the Houston area at one point...and I'm fairly sure they have cons in Austin/San Antonio. I'll have to do some digging, maybe I can figure them out for you.

A-kon left something to be desired the last time I went.

Hmm... last time I didn't mention the obvious, I got scolded...

But... did you guys know Fate Zero is being currently aired in Japan? Just saying.

I haven't started watching it (waiting to mainline), but my son has, and various people in guild are quite high on it. What do you think?

I'm always somewhat torn on prequels since you already have a pretty damn good idea of how things are going to end. But if the journey is good enough, it won't matter if you know where it's going.

Fate/Zero is an atypical prequel, because Nasu and Type Moon handed it over to an outside author, Urobuchi Gen. He consulted with them and had a basic outline of events that had to happen, but beyond that, he was given a pretty good amount of freedom. And, because Urobuchi Gen is an infinitely better author than Nasu Kinoko*, Fate/Zero is the best work that's come out of the Nasuverse so far. The character interplay has been top-notch, and there's plenty of comedy, action, intrigue, and tragedy mixed very well.

*I highly respect Nasu Kinoko's character building and world building. However, his writing and pacing are both stilted, something seen often Fate/Stay Night's navel-gazing.

I completely agree. I look forward to each episode. Clearly my name relates to it.

So I finally watched all of Steins;Gate and man that show was just full of emotional blackmail. I got fairly thoroughly fed up by the end of it. It was entertaining but I feel like they needed to put a hard cap on all the SAD that permeated that series. Also it had a veeeery slow start. Like I had almost given up on it because it was taking so long to get to the damn point already. I think I'd be hard pressed to recommend it to people based on those two flaws.

Recently watched the second Macross Frontier movie.

Man, who the hell decided that that was a good idea? Great music as always, but the plot seemed to consist of the repeated throwing of darts against a board filled with ludicrous plot twists and hoping that people wouldn't notice how little sense it all made. (Hey, it worked for Mission Impossible, right?)

I can agree to that list...DYRL still has one of the craziest fighting sequences in the franchise though...

Macross 7, yeah...despite me liking mecha series I totally disliked that one...and it even had two of my favorite characters from the original series in it as well!!! :(

But in other news, been watching the new last exile thingy, seems pretty decent! Have also been watching Boku Ha Tomodachi Ga Sukunai, only the last ep left now...it kinda grew on me for some strange reason, despite me not usually liking those kind of things...

Macross 7 is to the Macross franchise what Batman and Robin was to the Batman franchise.

And I'm guessing you're talking about Max and Miriya

Still one of my favorite fights ever, although I still put it below Isamu vs Guld

You are correct, always loved those two characters!

Also, just watched the last ep of Boku Ha Tomodachi Ga Sukunai, what a letdown...I am very disappointed...

The story was all over the place, no clear plot...meh, just wasted time I guess...

The New Anime Seasons seems so... lackluster.

I'm way more interested in some of the specials, like Lupin III, Gyo (always a big fan of Junji Ito) or the Kenshin movie.
