You say that... but I used to watch Beauty & the Geek... and most of the guys on there didn't make me feel better about my geekiness (since I was equal/worse than most of them

you do have a point, and i have to admit i did that too
and now, i am more comfortable in my geekiness so .....

Only when you are able to embrace your own inner geek will the path to redemption and righteousness be revealed.

Ya a lot of the commentators on the piece where ripping into the author for not informing himself first... IMO Sally is a beloved and well recognized character from The Nightmare Before Christmas, the fact that he didn't recognize her makes me think the author is to insulated lol.

I ended up watching a clip of this this morning over Invis' shoulder as I as getting ready for work this morning. The whole thing looked so incredibly uncomfortable that I couldn't wait to stop watching it.
There is a massive difference between geeks/nerds/whatever and people that are just totally socially inept and that really needs to be highlighted more. But I guess "geeks get love" is a better tagline for something that "we find love for people who lack social skills".

I don't know, I had a friend who played WoW with me who was totally socially inept and depressed all the time. He didn't do Geek Speed Dating but using WoW as a means to shield his awkwardness and shyness letting his more confident personally show through landed him a sweet, intelligent, and totally outgoing girl, and she is a Paladin. They are married now with a 3 year old daughter and he is a lot less shy/awkward.
This is a special, if they pick it up as a show, which they might depending on ratings, I hope they go into other aspects of "Geek Love", like people who meet through online games...cuz that's my story, and the story of about 10 other couples I know well.
And honestly, every couple I know who met through playing online games are the couples that are the most compatible, seem most happiest, and have the least problems that I can perceive from all the couples I know. I really think gaming helps weed out the "bad" people for you to date and lets you focus on personality, instead of getting immediately infatuated due to looks, you get to become interested due to personality first, and that I think helps overlook maybe one or two things that might have physically thrown you off if you only saw the person for the first time without knowing them (example a. teeth not brushed)

Re: Geek Love (TLC)
I get what you're saying, but a show like this tends to focus on the dysfunctional type of geeks which brands everyone else with a bad name. There's nothing sensational about a perfectly adjusted WoW player who enjoys looking at kittens on the internet and has their character tattooed on their body who happily met their match through the game they love playing. Instead, you get the basement dwellers who don't know how to talk to people are set up on speed dates.
I'm not saying there aren't socially inept people in WoW... of course, there are tons of them. But a show like that isn't going to choose the most well adjusted person in the bunch. They want to pick the person with the weirdest habits, the weirdest tendencies and use THEM as their "typical geek".
Anyway, I only saw like a minute long clip, so I could be totally offbase.

No, they will be going for trainwrecks because that is what will potentially get ratings.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Neither of us have our characters tattooed on ourselves. But as I was typing up an example, and trying to think of something slightly weird, his old GM's tattoo of his character (a gnome no less) popped into my head. The guy is happily married and has three kids and fit my idea of a nerd who is perfectly socially adjusted.
