As the 1 tank, I can say its definitely doable with a paladin, but I'm skeptical with any other tank. As a paladin you're always able to soak the (potential) second impale from each tentacle and you can bubble off the debuff from the adds in p2. Phase 2 in particular though is kinda hairy, I was at 4 stacks almost instantly and had to have guardian of ancient kings up before I could even think of tanking both at once. By bubbling off at 6, I was back up to 4 when they died, which without guardian is a bit frightening of damage output. Second set of adds never spawned, but had they I would've been dead almost instantly.

Just a quick update after going through it last night! We pretty much 3-healed every just in case, can never have too much heals right?

We 2-healed everything, but I definitely recommend 3-healing Warlord Zon'ozz and Spine of Deathwing.
There is no need whatsoever for a 2nd tank on Spine of Deathwing, and if you're a paladin you can get away with solo tanking Madness of Deathwing as well. It doesn't matter if Tetanus kills you because there won't be another set of adds.

TBH if you're solo tanking/2 healing Madness then i believe any tank can do it as you shouldn't be seeing 2 impales with 7 DPS.
Just remember not to DPS the limb until all other adds are dead (tentacle, meteor, bloods) so as not to start up the stacking AOE from DW.

This is only necessary at the points where you're missing the Alexstraza and Kalecgos buffs, and only for the tentacles and bloods, respectively. Our first kill we just used raid CDs and powered through anyway, so it's not 100% required to stop DPS unless you're having trouble.

H&T we just agree on CD for the last 20%
we found easier this way : it allows us to down him before the 5min mark (then, his dmg ouptut is rude and this is were you really need 3heal i guess).
we did it with 1 drood/1pal 1st time, and 1drood/1priest second time

Tanks - Paladin and Feral Druid who spends considerable time in kitty form

Most can be 2 or 3 healed. You really don't need 3 healers on gunship, it only makes it harder, and spine is the hardest to 2-heal.
I'm not sure how you're solo tanking spine - if an extra corruption ends up being killed, do you just wipe? From my experience, either you assign 1-2 people to switch and the stunned player takes a lot of damage, or everyone available switches and you kill it after 2-3 stuns.

I go ret for this fight and I can stop the corruptions from channeling, by myself, in 1 or 2 GCDs. On the off chance (it's pretty rare) that a corruption dies... the tank simply grabs it and then we barrel-roll it off after we destroy the plate.
A second tank is almost completely pointless on normal mode Spine.

Taunt extra amalgamations away, I guess? That's all they're useful for on raid finder, anyway.

Yeah, the most use I can imagine a second tank being is insurance if you expect other raid members to screw up too much: don't bother rolling the boss, and tank the spare amalgs in the back in case you mess up stacks/position on the first one.
