LFR Exploit - Loot / Tier drop farming

Postby Klaudandus » Fri Dec 02, 2011 11:40 am

Seriously, guilds farming 20+ LFRs to stack their entire guild with a four set is pretty stupid. Paragon even hinted at it in their "The Raid Observer" blog today.
And never mind the new introduction of our Raid Finder! This has created an interesting, new element that is being seriously considered by some of our elite guilds.
Yeah, a new element that is allowing you to outfit your raiders with free tier.

Well done blizzard.

If you are getting loot off of a boss twice then it is an exploit. This has always been the case in World of Warcraft, and we expect players to know better.

We’re in the process of implementing a hotfix to fix the exploit, and are deciding what steps we'll be taking for the gear that was already obtained.

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic ... ?page=5#97

This is basically how it works: all players pass on loot and leave the raid and disc from the game the raidleader rejoins the raid instance take the loot and can give the loot to the members without getting locked for loot.

IMHO, guilds that exploited this deserve a week suspension, but that's just me.

Well, I hope for a month, but I'd be happy enough with a week suspension, to have them fall behind progress. That's the only way to make these guys feel it, hurt them in their e-peens.

A month is what is deserving, since.... well, this is bloody awful.
A week is reasonable, because kicking them for a month will mean you lose subs, and a fair amount of the top end of your game will just.... find a new game like ToR to play and the chance at losing people after a 1 month ban is large.
72 hours is what they will get because blizzard will blame their own shoddy programming on the bug that caused it in the first place, and while what the players did was terrible, despicable, exploiting, and not in the 'spirit' of the game, the spirit of this game has been beated and bloodied for a while, and blizz knows it.

The problem is that, apparently, this bug was known to the top guilds since the PTR but decided to keep quiet about it.

That means that they abused the system knowingly and in a premeditated fashion by withholding information from the developers, which is the whole reason behind the PTR in the first place.

I know it's an unwritten rule of sorts, but the developers and the players have a trust relationship, specially when it comes to testing, but I'd say that the guilds betrayed the developers in this case... and they do deserve a suspension, at the very least, and like I said, in a way that will affect their e-peens... by halting their progression.

More the tester's fault than programmers since programmers really just do unit testing in a large shop like blizz. Prob is blizzard largely uses ptr as the testing but most on the ptr don't think like a tester.

Seems like there servers may have be down briefly for a patch, remote armory told me that the realm was in maintenance.

Edit, just downloaded a 41MB patch.

But that's the thing, the testers, in this case the guilds, found out about it and withheld that information from blizz, at least that's the rumors.

And there are several paragon posts on other forums saying "yeah, we did it" (this part is at least confirmed)

And should be noted that these are the same guilds that were crying foul regarding STARS faction/server changing.

I'm just glad that Blood Legion seems not to be involved in this, but Paragon, Method, Vodka, For the Horde and Envy were indeed caught in this.

Yeah, like I said in my edit, Blood Legion and Inner Sanctum apparently did play by the rules, good for them.

As for others, while I did expect it from Paragon, I'm a bit sad that others chose that path as well.

And Vodka is denying ever using this, and claim they actually reported this.

How exactly did they figure that they weren't going to get caught for this? Particularly something that gets displayed on your armory pretty prominently.

So, any guesses as to how the average LFR user will get screwed because the top guilds decided to do this? My guess is tier drop rates get nerfed to hell.
