Crushing blows during instant casts...

Postby Aergis » Tue Apr 03, 2007 1:14 pm

Yet another thing to watch while playing the RTS game known as pally tanking...

Apparently you can be crushed any time your shield touches your back, even on instant casts ( cleanse, consecration, exorcism, etc ). Seems to be a bug, but if you are hit while your hand is in the air for consecrate, for example, the 15% crushing chance returns.

Guess we also need to time our casts inbetween attacks until this gets fixed... Luckily, holy shield does not seem to have this problem.

Lovely. I noticed this the other night as well, while cleansing myself in heroic SV. Wasn't getting crushed, but I was definitely getting hit - which shouldn't happen.

Problem is like they said, any time your shield goes on your back, you can't block. No block = no crush immunity.

Wow, this explains A LOT. I have been parsing 5man runs and scratching my head as to why I am getting hit so often.

Anyone get any real testing on this? Going to grab a rogue friend and test this today myself.

I've been standing around in Terokkar trying to get something to hit me right after a consecrate, the window seems to be VERY small if it's there.

:(

This may explain otherwise "unexplainable" crushing blows. Going to test it myself this evening.

I suppose we could time Consecration for just after getting hit, when we're tanking a single boss that doesn't hit too quickly. But when tanking packs, like our talents/skills suggest we should...can't time that even on my best day. Also, I always thought that being able to Cleanse ourselves was one of our greatest strengths. If they fix Consecration I hope they fix Cleanse, too.

Tried fixing it up with a macro too, didn't work. Or rather, it worked if I was standing still, but when I tried it with autoattack on it didn't. Kinda weird.

Mind posting the macro here? I'm trying to figure out why that would happen.

Macros I tried were:

/cast Consecration
/startattack

That did basically nothing. So I tried:

/cast Consecration
/script ToggleSheath();

That worked if autoattack wasn't active.

Hmm... come to think of it, lemme do some more testing real quick.

I just tried:

/stopattack
/cast Consecration
/startattack

and

/stopattack
/cast Consecration
/script ToggleSheath();
/startattack

Neither worked. In fact it was worse, I'd stop attacking and cast Consecrate, but never start attacking again OR unsheathe my weapons. So instead I'd just stand there like a noob.

This is definately a horrible side effect of tanking being suddenly added to basically a caster class.

We need to act like this is a bug and post it on Blizzard's bug forum. At least there it will get some attention if we keep it bumped.

Even if Blizzard is aware of this limitation maybe they will re-think it and consider some changes there if we complain enough.

It's already on the bug forum: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/threa ... 1756&sid=1

And has lots of discussion on the Paladin forums:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/threa ... 0349&sid=1

I would encourage everyone who reads this thread to mention something there as well, at least in the bug thread.
