So why aren't the police there allowed to use tear gas and water cannons? That might quench things a little. Please stay safe..I've read reports that these hooligans (those now who are just rioting for the f of it) are breaking into people's homes and looting homes and stuff. Please stay safe...maybe put a sign on your door that says "beware of gun owner" ... well at least my uncle does that =/

It bothers me to say it, but I have never seen a positive news article about the British youth. As a result, none of this surprises me at all. Sickens me, yes, but doesn't surprise me.

OP: I wish you the best. If you are a British youth, I'm glad that you're not taking part in this crap.

We got sent home early yesterday (London), but in partial answer to some questions above: the media & government keep trotting out the 'policing by consent' line in response to calls for water cannons etc….

The Met in London though rolled out an extra 10k members on the streets last night and were issued and ordered to make use of baton rounds *if necessary but to avoid it at all costs if possible* - I know this as I work for the police watchdog that's also prominent in the news atm. The official line from the cops (both to us the watchdog & the press) is that they are worried about instigating and 'arms race' if they start resorting to use of 'para-military policing' strategies. Honestly I'm not sure how long that will hold up if the populace continue to be held to ransom by a bunch of mostly teenagers.
Either way London was quiet last night and it's just as well - they really don't want to face the Met at full force.
I also thought the GMP did a decent job reacting to the riots last night given what was going on tbh.

The video of the injured kid being mugged, killed a small part of me inside, & contributed to yet another personal loss of faith in mankind as a whole. That was just dark & evul.

EDIT: to update -> the PM is saying water cannons have been made available and will be used if this continues...

I want to see widespread bashing of skulls on the dumb idiots. Gogo police brutality. Probably the one case where the rest of the world would condone it.

Not really.
"The world" is a lot of stuff. And since someone invented the retarded idea of making certain things more important than being alive, not even "surviving" is something everything in the world agrees.

The supposed pretext for this whole riot is utter bullshit.
The policemen were WELL within proper escalation of force and rules of engagement to shoot that idiot.
This is just a bunch of hoodlums making an opportunistic orgy of destruction just because they want to watch the world burn and think their lives are SO HARD.

And I meant the common sense having part of the world.

At least I can tell people I live in Enfield now and they won't have to ask me where it is.
