I don't think anyone's saying that smoking is good for you, or that they don't contribute to the risk of getting cancer.
What I, personally, am saying is that they aren't as bad as they're made out to be. They're bad, but they aren't as bad as the propaganda would have you believe.

They are pretty much made of bad stuff in a dozen possible senses, complete with things that are right-out stated to be poisons. Kinda like coke-cola. Except it spreads.

My overall point is.
I like smoking, and I know it's bad for me.
And babies can go screw themselves, pregnant women too.

No, I seriously hate babies.
Babies = Annoying little snotbags.
I have no plans of ever having them, I hate kids. Until they're around 4-5, Keep them away from me. After 4-5 I find them amusing, so it's okay.
Pregnant women are crazy, and anyone who says otherwise is lying out of their ass.
This being said, I don't wish to harm them, I just don't like them.

I have a prego wife at home. I have a 2 year old son at home. Is my wife irrational? Hell yes. Is my son a little spoiled brat? Hell yes.
Do I regret getting married and having kids? HELL NO.
You really can't speak of what you don't know. But, that's my 2 cents.

Oh, don't get me confused.
I have no issues with pregnant women, or babies.
I just never plan on having kids.

Yes, but so is not breathing so there is not an alternative. One can choose not to smoke however.
I have no problem with folks smoking, but if you admit that smoking increases your odds of dying by cancer, you can't really complain about the vernacular stance of smoking causing cancer. You don't need to prove it at an individual level, if you admit it increases the odds, then you are also admitting that someone got cancer and wouldn't have if they did not smoke. Thus, the vernacular is pretty reasonable.

Average time to die when breathing: ~75 years
Average time to die when not breathing: ~6 minutes
I'll take my chances.

It seems reasonable to the uninformed I agree. To anyone who actually reads about the subject then no that isn't a reasonable stance to take on it.
Smoking is bad for you. No-one disputes that. Cancer however is something that people can get without ever having smoked. If you smoke you have an increased risk of getting cancer but if you smoke it doesn't mean you will get cancer.
