It is amazing and a bit saddening to watch (even though I'm not a hockey fan nor a Canadian). Thoughts?

Fucking stupid idiots is all I can say. I have no idea where that came from or why that city thought it would be a clever idea to destroy their own place to live after losing a game of hockey.

You destroy it after you win. Silly Canadians.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

LA was primed to do the exact same thing last year after game 7 of the NBA finals.

"What's gonna happen if they lose?"
"A riot."
"So I guess we should root for a win!"
"Nah, a win means a happier riot."

This ^

A riot is supposed to be a celebration after a win. Clearly Vancouver is a bunch of sore losers

The G20 riots here weren't exactly because the rioters won anything...

My favorite bit was the guy that got nut shot with the exploding flashbang grenade. I lol'd.

Best. Nutshot. EVER.

- A demolitions specialist at a flat run outranks everybody.

God that is one of the greatest things I've ever seen

Although I'm not sure that was a Flashbang. From my knowledge Flashbangs are usually used in enclosed areas (such as a building) and would be less effective outside (especially during daytime).

I'm no expert, but it looked like a smoke grenade to me. Every site on the interwebz (read: mtankadin, reddit) is calling it a flash-bang though.

I'm pretty sure the whole point of a Flashbang is to create a blinding light in a dark room (enclosed by walls where the light can't escape)

It'd seem pretty silly to Flashbang someone outside during the day

Well, I think that the idea is that the BANG! Part of it will really get your attention.

My theory fails. Smoke bomb into a riot? Probably not a very smart idea. Maybe tear gas?

From it blowing up, it looked like it could've been a rubber pellet grenade (the kind they use in prison riots). Definitely not gas or smoke, those don't exactly explode.

The rubber pellet (or stinger grenade known to some) seems most likely.

The video ended before we got to see the after effects of the explosion sadly

Flashbangs don't really make a huge flash, and you're not supposed to use them in enclosed spaces. They're designed to blow out eardrums and cause vertigo/tinnitus, the flash itself just a (bonus) side effect of the explosion. If you throw a flashbang in an enclosed space, the pressure wave bounces off the walls and intensifies the effect to the point where it can kill, which sort of negates that whole "less than lethal" idea behind a flashbang.

Here's a flashbang grenade going off - looks awfully similar to the one in the video above: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZM8Mq9ll1g
