X Men: First Class

The only major continuity issue within the movie was as follows:
The part where Mystique turns into Shaw while wearing the helmet, but she'd never seen the helmet before...

It bugged me too at first, but I think he had the helmet when he attacked the CIA base. Mystique saw it there. There's even a bit of dialog between Frost and Shaw: "the telepath's not here" "good, I can take this thing off"

Loved this movie btw. Probably even more than the original movies. And yeah, the cameos were great.

Liked the movie.

But whoever said the acting was great is wrong. Kevin Bacon, James Mcavoy, and Fassbender were the only good actors in the movie. Granted, they are the 3 main characters so it should be expected, but all the other actors were not that good. You could tell they were young and inexperienced.

Other than that, I thought it was pretty good.

Realized about halfway through the movie that Michael Fassbender actually played Azazeal on Hex a few years back. That brought a grin to my face.

It isn't the "must see in theatres to properly appreciate it" type movie like Tron was. If you can handle everyone else babbling on about how good it was for the next few months before you manage to see it, then yeah, it can wait.

I'll wait then. I generally only go to theaters for high action movies that are essentially made of explodium with very little downtime. You really need a theater surround sound system to TRULY appreciate the sound of Shit Blowing Up.

Speaking of which, the surround sound wasn't working for half the movie when i saw it. It really ruins the experience to only have tiny sound coming from the screen.

The Michael Bay element was actually pretty lowkey really, the film is basically a 60s spy movie homage that just happens to have mutants as the main characters, it worked surprisingly well!

Found it absolutely badass. I wouldn't have wanted to wait for a blue ray release if I had the opportunity to watch it in the cinema. Go watch it Fivelives, you won't be disappointed

Not sure exactly how well it fit within the "official" history of the x-men, but it was a GOOD FREAKING MOVIE.

I only had a few minor complaints.


[spoiler]Some of the characterizations seemed somewhat inconsistant: Mystique seemed to jump fairly rapidly from, "I want to look normal" to, "I'm glad to be blue." Conversely, the young xavier started the movie ready to accept mystique as she was, and towards the end of the movie, "Good god woman, put some clothes on."


Also, it kind of bothered me how little we learned of the 'other' x-men. Aside from the main trio of mystique, magneto, and xavier, only angel and beast got a small amount of character development. We learn practically nothing about the others beyond the brief few seconds where xavier and magneto 'recruit' them. Why was havoc in a maximum security prison to begin with?

Also, prof x seemed to be gary stu'd slightly[/spoilers]

Aside from those though, it was an excellent movie, good special effects, great acting, hilarious cameos, and great writing. I'd highly recommend it.
