Global Announcements are weird. PHPBB doesn't really enforce rules for them as their own entity, it just applies the rules of whatever forum you're looking at.[/quote]
Yeah, I thought it was odd that I could moderate it when I was looking at AT&C but not while in General. I figured something like that was going on.

This brings up a question... if they're "spamming" in a well used thread (like frustrations/successes/relationships) are we supposed to wait until they're deleted before continuing to post in them? Or does this only apply to new threads?

Just report and ignore them, we'll take care of them as soon as some mod logs as it's quite impossible for a mod to miss a reported post.

Whoops, fired off a spam report but forgot to change the default report type from "illegal software" to "product add".

Sorry.

there are those that will want to argue with the spammer thinking they can make them stop. its such a pitiful and stupid though that they can reason with a spambot but they will still try no matter what you post sabindeus.

We don't get that here very often so it's not usually a problem. Most of the time it's folks posting funny responses (what Sabin referred to has "lols").

Tenaka, to be honest I almost never pay any attention to the report type. As long as the post is reported it becomes much more visible to us and we'll see the post and be able to deal with. So thanks for taking the time to report it, it's very helpful for getting spam posts deleted in a timely manner.

If a spammer posts 20 spam posts all over the forum, do we have to report them all, or can we just say "ban this user and delete all his posts" ?

It's happened before that I reported some spam, the post was deleted, but the spammer was still there posting more crap.

Generally you don't have to report them all. In the case you describe, it's just a human error (but not possibly by me!) by one or more moderators. If you do note that there are multiple posts by that user in the report that you do make, then it's probably less likely that a moderator will miss the others.

Sometimes though you will see that behavior when a moderator who only has access to certain forums deletes a post, but they will usually let the other mods know so the rest of the posts can be cleaned up as we check the site. We don't all have full access.

Just reported that site spamming about handbags to their DNS provider (Yahoo! Small Business, who I know take this kind of abuse seriously).

Does anyone know the right way to report abuse to a registrar (Melbourne IT in this case)? The contact information in the registration is garbage (not a valid WHOIS masking service, just cat-typing in every field except email address).
