The Lunar games all got ported to the PSX, so there's no need to go for a sega cd emulator - ePSXe works pretty much right out of the box. Look for Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue for the psx - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_(series)

I use an old wired Xbox 360 controller that I had kicking around for a couple of years, but you can get USB controllers for around $8 to $14 on Amazon.

- A Sergeant in motion outranks an officer who doesn't know what the hell is going on.
- A demolitions specialist at a flat run outranks everybody.

HoMM II was a hell of a game, but III+xpacs+WoG is in a league of its own (not to mention that it's still being worked on). While I am unable to play it like I used to do ten years ago, I can't seem to let a single month pass without hitting a couple of maps.

Fucking LOVED HoMM3. I've been wanting to play it again for old time's sake, but I haven't been fucked to try to get it to work properly on my computer. :(

Lots of good ones already mentioned. Another I loved to pieces was TIE Fighter.

See, I'm feeling real old right now, because none of these discussed actually evoke "old school" for me. Well, except Oregon Trail...but even then I didn't originally play it on the computer, but as an in- class module with the teacher telling us what happened to us (I hated that bastard SOOO much).

I was thinking Joust, Pac Man, Galaga, Pitfall, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, etc.

Ha. I remember nickel arcades. Games like Tron and Defender and honest-to-god pinball machines.

FINALLY I remembered

Dragon Warrior Monsters.

Looking back I am shocked that it didn't become very famous since it is very much like Pokemon, but I guess the whole TV cartoon thing is what made Pokemon so famous?

Those were all pretty good, Dig Dug and Pitfall were among my favorites on that list. A lot of the games of that Arcade/Atari era, which were mostly just escalating levels because "saving" wasn't a readily available technology, I just didn't get into all that much. Probably my most played Arcade games when I was a kid were Punch Out (the green guy version), Kung-Fu Master, and 10 Yard Fight.

The Commodore 64 was when I really got into games that had more depth like Ultima, Legacy of the Ancients (my personal favorite), Bard's Tale, and others.
