I need some advice or help to deal with being burnt out.
So...
I have been a prot pally since BC. I have enjoyed it so much that damn near everyone knows me as a prot pally. Which is fine, it's my favorite class by a long shot.
Since cataclysm though.
I have felt burnt, I have felt under geared, I have felt like I am just not as good as I use to be. (And I gauge my good how I did in BC on. Not the lol two-button fest I had in wrath.)
Any advice on how I can get the passion back? I really am missing the burning passion I once had for tanking on my pally.
Maybe work my death knight as a main (Which is horrible. I have so much on my pally. )
I don't know where to turn or where to go. I need some advice, motivation, whatever. I need to get out of this rut.

Talk to therapist Shoju. He can take you through the 12-step conversion from Paladin to DK tanking?
He was running Kara today for achievements and level 60 raids a couple of days ago. Gained like 500 achievement points in the past couple of days in order to start making the DK feel more like his "main."
As for me when I feel that way, I roll an alt of a class I have not played before. Since I only now have 5 toons (85 Pally, 85 Priest, 85 Druid, 39 Shaman, 17 Mage), it is not hard.
Cheers,

Do professions, do an alt, become a AH goblin.. just find something new to do.
Or take a break, and cut back on game time.

Welcome to the club.
Dont keep pushing yourself at any rate.
Find something thats feels "FUN".
Or just try not logging on for 3 days in a row. If you can get through 3 days without the urge to login you definitely need a break.

Sabin is right. When burned out do not WoW for a while. Forcing yourself to have fun again when you aren't will just make you resent the game more.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

I completely agree, this game is for fun and if you can't find anything that is fun in the game... then a new game might be what you need or a break. I have many alts and that is what keeps me playing, all of my alts have professions that are either maxed out for the level or on the way to being maxed. I hate working on Archeology but it has some great items for your alts. So it all comes down to what you want to do. I can tell you all day what makes this game fun for me but if you don't agree than I am wasting my time. Tell me what you like in the game and maybe we can give you some advise on that topic.

ty Devi...
i was going to mention alts as well
i have one of every class on my main server (Scarlet Crusade) and almost one of everyclass on Teranis (my horde alt server) and those are what keep me playing
i have 5 85s, 3 of which are raid ready (2 tanks, 1 healer) and one that is almost there (342 ilvl hunter main, can pull 12-14k on boss)
i also have my dk and rogue that i am currently actively leveling on SC and my rogue that is in Lurkers on Teranis (i need to get the rest of my alts in there and start playing that server more)
anyway...alts are a great way to spend time in the game and to enjoy it again.
and i know altoholics is for me....hell i was a founding member!

Here's a question..
What exactly are you burning out on? anything specific? is it raiding? the grind? trying to gear a toon? Looking at that might help you decide what it is that's really bugging you, and give you some direction to do something different.

Wanted to speak to this issue in particular. I played a Prot Warrior as my main all the way through Vanilla and TBC raid content. My Ret Pally alt became my Prot Pally alt in TBC, and was a fun diversion. By the time Sunwell hit, I was very, very burnt out on my Prot Warrior. I really wanted to make my Paladin my main, but the War was so well-geared, had so many more 'cheeves (when that system eventually hit), so many more HKs, etc etc. I was so burnt out, I said forget it when WotLK hit and took a 2 year break.
When Cata hit, I decided the Prot Paladin would be my main. I have had a blast and never looked back. Sure, he doesn't have all the PvP cheeves and mounts my warrior does, or the titles, or the special pets and w/ever. But the more important part is, I'm having fun again in the game.
I'm at the point now where I go back to my Warrior and he's even fun again and I can enjoy playing him.
My advice to you - if you're burnt, make the switch, play the DK, and forget the other stuff. Fun is the key to the game.
Pretty sure you'll eventually come back to the Paladin and discover it's somehow fun again.

Re: I need some advice or help to deal with being burnt out.
Agreed on all that's above.
Playing something else (another MMO, Minecraft, or anything else really) helps you think about Not Wow, and also appreciate the things you enjoy in wow.
Playing an alternate character lets you experience the game differently (ranged vs melee dps, healer vs tank, etc). For me, it ultimately helps me appreciate the things I like about my paladin. My shaman is fun, but when I pull too much, I think, "well at least I can self-rez...", whereas my paladin would have tanked it all down. My arms warrior is like a flying train full of buckets of pure concentrated fun, delivered in concentrated form directly to my brain, and yet there are still things I like about my paladin more (durability, oh-shit buttons, etc).
I'm tempted by the Rift free trial, but frankly I think it's more likely that I'll sit down and play Minecraft for hours on end.

I like the 3 day advice. Really think it hits the nail on the head. Rift does have a free demo. I dont know how it can be missed as its advertised on like 1 in 3 sites. My accounts out of time tomorrow. Once my monthly bandwidth resets I'll be giving Rift a try. My wifey has become addicted to all things dragon age as well. Picking up a good console game can be a good break. If you don't want to pay full ticket price, video rental places usually have used games. Can save you a bit of cash.
Cheers
