No, not really. And people who take offense to that are, to me, over dramatic. I know a couple people whose friends&family took a hit from the WTC incident and they never really felt bothered by it past the obligatory mourning that comes from losing a loved one.
You are right, to a point. Generally speaking any symbol is a valid target for morale damage, which the Kingdom Tower will be as soon as it thrives. I don't believe, though, that should be a reason to avoid building it, but I don't know enough about psychology/mass psychology/SPENDINGMONIES! to make a more informed opinion.
Meh, possibly, but targets for what terrorists?
We're talking about the country that is the leader of the Sunni Islam block here. The majority of the 9/11 hijackers WERE Saudi Arabian.
It would be like suggesting that it might not be a good idea to build additional development in New York City because the U.S. military might invade.

Well, Brekkie, I'm just assuming that enemies exist for everyone, everywhere.

Re: Kingdom Tower
Aren't the Sunni and Shi'ite tribes still going at it? That would be prime candidate #1. Anyone who's pissed at OPEC would be prime candidates as well. The entire global economy is going to shit, and Saudi Arabia is erecting a giant penis to celebrate?
Yeah, I can see it being a terrorist target.
Yeah, I can see it being a terrorist target.

Oh the Sunni and Shia blocs still hate each other, certainly, but that conflict is fought mostly through proxies.
Sure everybody has enemies, but not everyone has enemies that use the same methods. The kinds of groups that have a reason to hate Saudi Arabia don't have the means or the inclination to express that hatred through 9/11 style terrorist bombings deep in the heart of Saudi Arabia its self. We're talking about the land of the prophet here. Even the most zealous Islamic extremist wouldn't commit that kind of sacrilege.

It could be an OKC style bombing - just a truck full of fertilizer. But if Jerusalem and Mecca aren't safe, I can't picture this place being completely safe either.

Jeddah is probably the safest place in the middle east.
I'd even say it's safer than most U.S. cities.
Brutal public executions and dismemberment for even the most minor offenses and a high active secret police have a way of ensuring that no one dares try anything.

I think to avoid double entendres the stiffs at Nintendo came up with "Powerful Entertaining Nintendo Interactive System" this time around. Bit of a long name though, hard to swallow. It's funny to see Nintendo spouting the seeds of a new console generation though, they've had a pretty long dry spell in that regard.Blackharon wrote:Skye1013 wrote:I love these forums... Supposedly going to be more powerful than a PS3 or Xbox360...
The childishness in me hopes they call it the Wii^2 making it the Wii(Wii)

They're going to have to do more than lengthen the name though. They're going to have to do a lot to make up for the lack of satisfaction us long time nintendo fans have had with previous ventures.

I hear they will be using a new Version-Integrated Algorythm Generated Resource Administrator chip to enhance performance and extend playability of the new system.
