Stereotypes of Gamers
Greetings Maintankadin
I am currently conducting a research study which compares and contrasts the “stereotypical” gamer with reality. There have been numerous studies throughout the years comparing the habits and lifestyles of average gamers with average non-gamers, however, there has been limited research that compares the lifestyles of the avid gamer to the public perception of them.
As such, this study has two goals:
1. Quantify what the “stereotypical” avid video game player
2. determine if the public’s perception of avid gamers aligns with reality
A key part of my research will stem from this survey.
So, if anyone would like to help out a fellow gamer, please take 5-10 minutes of your time to fill out this survey, I’ll greatly appreciate it.

Re: Stereotypes of Gamers
I answered this survey assuming that, if I'd started my job yet or was in a romantic relationship, I'd be totally forthcoming about my Mass Effect love. Unfortunately, I had to answer "no" for both of these questions to remain completely honest!
I have always embraced the gamer stereotype; maybe because it was only forced upon me through middle school. I've always been orders of magnitude more confident than anyone who derived "popularity" points from calling someone a gamer, though.

Ran into a little problem. I'm neither 18-24 nor over 30.

Done.
I'm such a nerd.
I'm such a nerd.
Why can't a Warrior Thunderclap while silenced?
You're actually clapping your thighs together with a force so powerful that you generate a sonic boom and the resulting electrostatic energy. Unfortunately, when you're silenced, you can't generate the audible force from your thunder thighs.

Done and done!

"Definition: Love is making a connection with another person against long odds."
"Clarification: Love is making a shot to the knees of a target 300 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope."

I totally filled out your survey but I am a little curious as to what you're expecting your outcome will be using the Maintankadin community as a data source? (seems rather biased way from the stereotype to me is all I'm saying)

There are actually two surveys sorted by the first question. One survey(aimed at casual gamers and non gamers) is to determine the stereotype, the second survey(targeted at avid gamers) is to determine whether or not the reality falls in line with the stereotype.
Maintankadin isn't my only source of data, I'm posting it on a few non-gaming websites and getting other students to fill it out as well.
That being said, it is a bit harder to find groups of non-gamers, so if anyone has some casual/non gaming friends who'd be willing to fill this thing out... It would help quite a bit.
