The problem I've had with House is I've never seen even a single episode where he's faced a serious tangible consequence (i.e. a patient dying due to his impaired judgment; having his medical license revoked; having his credibility as doctor completely destroyed; a car wreck while driving under the influence; serious financial problems; seriously impairing health problems; etc.) as a result of it. Same thing with the constant pain. He still does great at almost everything, for all intents and purposes, so how is it a flaw?
As an example, even on the occasion where he checked a mental health patient out of an inpatient mental hospital (while he was a patient, no less), and said patient ends up jumping off a building and seriously injuring/killing himself (I don't clearly recall), neither House nor any other character suffers any tangible consequence. House just looks a little sad for about 5 minutes afterward, *but* he starts to take his own mental health treatment seriously, so its a-ok!![]()
This isn't to say the show has no entertainment value, or that people who watch it are stupid, but I dislike the way the absence of consequences pretty much ends up *glorifying* his supposed flaws. Like I said, I'm hardly a barometer for good TV, and people should watch what they enjoy, I just don't enjoy those 2 particular shows.
Actually that car wreck while under the influence has happened to House...and it caused a death, severe emotional problems for more than one person on the show, and causes him to go to rehab for a good chuck of season 6 I believe.
For me personally though...if I really wanted to watch something real, I'd just look out my window. I prefer 'superhuman' smarts and whatnot in my tv. What would be the point of watching tv if what they show is something you can witness everyday in real life?

Also worth nothing, Netflix is apparently losing the rights to a few Showtime shows that they previously had carte-blanche on - Dexter and Californication: http://goo.gl/aLLvC
Hopefully this doesn't become a trend :/
Appears this has become a trend. But with netflix saying it will violate current contracts with Starz.

IIRC, Although house was under the influence, it was the driver of the bus that did the crashing. However, it was house's addiction that caused the death of that character.
(Spoilers) House's attitude and addiction also destroyed the only relationship he's had throughout the show(/spoilers)
It would be interesting, in my opinion, to see his... "unusual" methods wind up causing him to lose a patient, and try to see him go "straight" for awhile, but that's probably not going to happen.
As for me, I mostly watch house for the humor, House is quite fluent in sarcasm.

Slightly off-topic (but not with the current discussion...):
Since I haven't seen any of House past Season 5... did they ever give "No. 13" a name?

The collision wasn't the bus driver's fault. But, there was an entire season where House was being investigated by the cops, and almost went to jail and lost his license because of his vicodin addiction. Then there was the hallucinations that made him do things like almost kill Chase at his bachelor party.
The show stopped being about the medical aspect and started being about the characters quite some time ago, so who cares if a substance abuse problem doesn't affect his patients - that can be hand waved away as him being a brilliant physician with a medical encyclopedia for a brain. Also, it's not entirely uncommon for doctors to be addicted to painkillers; and, it's pretty rare that narcotics (vicodin, percocet, etc) affect judgement, unlike alcohol or some of the other illegal drugs.

I'm surprised there's subbed anime on Netflix - I thought the anime deal they worked out was exclusive with Funimation, and all of the stuff they put up there has been reversioned?
