In a raid, you've got goals. If your goal is to have fun and hang out with your friends, then alright. If your goal is to get as far as possible, then you have to make sure you have the best players. If you have a bunch of your friends playing and they're "dead weight", it can become a problem. It all goes back to the goals point, though.

"Too many raiders" is not the same as "dead weight".

A very good friend of mine wrote a book about this: WoW Factor. It discusses the skills and experience developed in games like WOW that are directly applicable in the business world.
