5 Complaints About Modern Life Debunked

Postby Lightbeard » Mon Jan 31, 2011 7:50 pm

http://www.cracked.com/article_18983_5- ... -b.s..html

Normally I wouldn't make a new thread for a cracked article but I think this deserves a read.

The author discusses 5 complaints about todays like such as how expensive everything thing is, processed food killing us, the average IQ is dropping because of too much reality tv, and etc.

It's a brilliant article aimed at all the pessimists in today's society. If you have time it deserves a read (at least the second page)

My favorite section is the one about how people bitch and moan about how today's music sucks compared to earlier years.

Except that today's music really does suck.

I personally don't like those who idolize the "classics" simply because they're classic. I like zeppelin, skynard, ccr, and all of the classic rock giants as much as the next guy, but to blindly say that zeppelin was the best group that ever is, was and will be, is just ignorant.

That being said, one advantage(or disadvantage, depending on the way you look at it) about the internet age, is that, because so many more bands and genres are acceptable to to the public, the "good bands" tend to attract smaller, more niche audiences, while pop music, which is by nature designed to be derivative and having wide appeal, get put into an even greater forefront.

Rick Green - the creator of "History Bites" and one of the "The Frantics" - has a wonderful rant about how the Good Old Days weren't. According to him, we are living in a golden age, especially if you're a woman. He unleashed it on a hapless idiot who said she wished she lived in the time of King Arthur because that was so romantic.

Utter. Demolition.

King arthur...romantic?
I mean...sixth century. Marriage age is 12. And you will marry. Or you can try and become a nun. Oh, and expect to be raped every other season, for an entire night(or five) if you are pretty enough ( read : don't have any immediately perceivable disease or ultimate fatness/oldness, in which case you just get stabbed a few times and left to die ), before taking your husband into account. Oh, and love? Some weird story to keep children away from the business of adults. Oh, and pregnancy/births had enough of a mortality rate everyone has or had at least 2 wives and a handful of dead kids.
Oh, and heavy labor is cursory. About as much as men's, but less glorified.

I'll have to go home and read this cause I do believe our food is killing us to make more money off us when we are old and get sick from the steroids they put into our foods and we need crazy meds to keep us alive.

and "classic" rock is only classic because thats we have been force fed to believe from our parents and major music records who have been reaping the benefits for the past few decades.

I just hate TV. I think its just a distraction from real issues. I don't think it has to do with lowing IQ. our educational systems (in the US at least) is lagging. thats a rant within itself because my sister, brother in-law, and sister in-law are teachers. I hear crazy shit stories. about the parents.

I haven't ready this article so I'm curious to compare my thoughts.
