Vindication and multiple mobs

When I look at Vindication, it only applies to the mob when CS or HoR. Has anyone ever experience a situation where they feel they need to tab target to apply Vindication on multiple targets? Do paladins take significantly more damage (as compared to the other tanks) from melee with multiple mobs because of the single target application of this ability?

In dungeons and heroics, healers do not complain about my damage intake while tanking a group of monsters but I geared enough for those two zones. This is a question of curiosity and to think about in a raid situation where demo shout, demo roar, and scarlet fever may be available.

It is my understanding that the tooltip is incorrect and the AoE portion of HotR is applying Vindication. There is no need to tab-target to apply it.
