lvl 85 tank comparison?
I was looking for some information over the internet, and couldn't find anything that wouldn't be horribly outdated or simply a whine. I should probably add that I had over a year break from the game, and dinged half a week ago, so I didn't have much chance and time to go through different class mechanics.
Yet I am really wondering what are the differences between tanks right now, as they definately don't seem to be as homogenous as I expected them to be (given the trend I saw in Lich King). I do not ask "which tank is better" but more in line of "what's warriors strength compared to paladins amazing self healing?".
Is there any detailed and preferably theory-crafted comparison that I missed? If not - is anyone willing to write one here?
(Main reason I ask this is that only tank class I didn't play was a DK, and I am thinking of trying something else than my good 'ol pally
).

The warrior has alot of "movement" capabilities that other classes do not have Charge, Intercept, Intervene, and Heroic Leap. All this movement makes Warriors amazing.
I have not noticed much changes to bear druid yet
but my bear is not yet 85.

From my experience, the other tanks have better aoe threat than us.

Fix't... I've seen some DK tanks that use Death Strike less than my Frost DPS DK...

Having leveled a DK tank to 85 as my "new main for cataclysm," I can tell you that the times when you REALLY need to be death striking a lot are the times you usually can't because you're too busy using those runes for other purposes, such as getting AOE threat, reapplying frost fever or scarlet fever, or popping bone shield when blood tap is on CD.

Do Bears really have that big a health pool lead over the rest of us nowadays? My bear co-tank is in roughly the same gear level as I (346+) and I remember our HP being about even post buffs.

my 82 bear has a nearly 100k hp pool when buffed
it took my warrior til 84 to get that
(now she has like 150k buffed 131 unbuffed)

Are you sure you haven't been upgrading your gear faster on the bear than the warrior?
Re: Death strike: After about 4 wipes on the final boss of Lost City with said DK tank, we booted him (or he left, I don't remember), and I switched to blood, got in far more DS, the healer was happier, and we completed the instance. It's possible he was just another fail DK, but it's not the first time it's happened, just the most recent one I can remember.

Re: lvl 85 tank comparison?
Bear tanks no longer have a significant health pool lead on the rest of us (if any at all?). My co-tank bear has been gearing up equally fast and we've had roughly the same size health pool throughout raiding progression (I've even been slightly ahead mostly, but that might just be because of gemming/enchant choices).

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.

Re: lvl 85 tank comparison?
Trade spams for tanks on my server are usually "LF tank (dk/warrior)" or "Tank needed heroic (dk pref)". Overall DKs seem the most favoured tanks whilst Paladins (and possibly druids) the least. This probably has no basis in any theorycraft, but I do miss the days when I joined a PuG and the response was “Woot! pally tank!”
Why did we go out of fashion again? Lack of aoe threat?

Re: lvl 85 tank comparison?
How's paladins mitigation better than warriors? I still don't really get mechanics of crit block nowadays, but I was under impression that block was equally good for both classes. Or do you mean shielding with overheals? Or some talent?
Arrgh... I am confused.
I also don't think you can say paladin LACKS aoe threat - I certainly didn't run into problems with it in my heroic experience, but maybe in raid? How are other classes better?
