Particularly, there's a whole section in the movie (when he looks something like 50 years old and he goes traveling around the world) where I didn't even suspect the face was CG until I saw a making-of.
(haven't seen Tron yet, it comes out in february here)
THAT was cg too? holy crap!
Next you're gonna tell me that lord of the rings used cg!

Tron was excellent on all fronts, don't be scared away by the bandwagon nay-sayers.
Even the 3D (which Nika and I both loathe) was good, although simply because for the most part you didn't even notice it. (Note to filmmakers: the audience not noticing the technical wizardry and simply telling your story is doing it right.)
Can't wait to get the soundtrack, and very interested to see where they go with the next one.

this.
I was telling my brother, after he said " the "3D" was a bit to be desired", I told him that I found it rather refreshing that it wasn't "omg sword in your face!" 3D.

Re: tron and cgi
just a slight one.
sidenote: tracking down all the different special edition tracks for the tron soundtrack was a pain. but I emerge victorious.

I fucking loved it. Very few movies have made me grin throughout it, but this one certainly did it for me. The visuals were absolutely stunning.

Sorry, I never actually read the OP.
AHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
That first shot from FF:SW looks like a current-gen video game. Sir, I formally request you find your rocker - you are clearly off of it.
Also, I renamed your thread to attract more users.

Well, TBH, there were a LOT of scenes in the movie that weren't 3D at all.
Disney realized that trying to digitally shoehorn scenes that weren't actually filmed in 3D into 3D isn't a good idea.

This is why Avatar was successful. It wasn't all "OMG GUISE WE'RE FILMIN IN THREE DEE, LET'S THROW SHIT AT THE AUDIENCE, IT'LL BE TOTALLY KEWL AND RAD!!!1"
I'll go see it in the theater Christmas Eve after I get off shift and ditch the work phone in my locker for a few days.

I actually liked that someone scenes weren't 3D. It allowed me to take off my glasses for about the third of the movie that wasn't shot in the grid.

Going to disagree with you a bit there. Avatar, while lush and beautiful in terms of scenery, costumes, etc. Was an absolute and horrible eyestrain. I came out of the theatre with a massive headache and my eyes were incredibly sore. It tried too hard to force your eyes onto what they wanted you to see. Unfortunately, since the scenery was so beautiful and vast, your eyes tend to naturally look away at the surroundings. Doing this caused a lot of problems because everything was out of focus, intentionally.

Re: TRON: Legacy
I didn't have that problem, so I guess I just kept my eyes focused in the right spot. Avatar is the only movie I've seen in theaters since movies started running longer than 2 hours that I could tolerate sitting in those god-awfully uncomfortable chairs from start to finish.

Re: TRON: Legacy
Saw the movie yesterday (in 2D, because the 3D glasses don't fit well with my glasses so they're uncomfortable to wear) and I thought everything looked awesome without it. I thought the movie itself was great and a very fun movie to watch, despite having two small gripes. Both of which centered around the character Tron himself.
I figured out who Tron was in about .2 seconds considering how I recognized the light pattern on his suit. That's not the issue. The issues I had was, we only ever see Tron once without his helmet on and that it felt like his character was handled oddly at the end. The only time we see him is in the flashback to how Flynn got trapped in the Grid world. Once the character remembers who he is, we never see him as "Tron" again. Which was mildly annoying. After he's defeated on the Light Jets and CLU escapes, we see his lights go from red back to white as he sinks in the water. And that's the last we see of him. I kept half-expecting that Tron would show up to help Flynn take down CLU or, die trying to save his old friend from CLU, or hell even just show up for a brief goodbye or something. But no, he just sinks. Seemed like a pointless show. If they were going to show him sinking and getting derezzed, then just do it I say. And if they're keeping him for another sequel, then I'd say it was a poor link. Just my opinion though.
But those are, in the grand scheme, minor gripes about a movie I thoroughly enjoyed.

While it usually wasn't (and even How to Tame your Dragon was pretty restrained), the film was still "Hey, um, yeah --- Maaaaaassive depth of field here. BTW, that ground is really far away."
