Every single foiled attempt (that we've heard about) has been foiled by other passengers, not by TSA.

I knew I should have just mentioned that, but it's just not really relevant. TSA exists and takes these measures because of the risk of such attempts. That they occurred, regardless of how they were foiled, justifies some level of security.

The actual security is being provided by intelligence agencies in cooperation with local law enforcement. The show of security is being provided by the TSA. The problem, like I've said many times in this thread, is that the TSA has forgotten that their sole purpose is pretty much to just provide an "oh hey, the government is doing something" show to the public and has gone WAY off script because of their inflated sense of importance, thanks to the government officials falling for their own scare tactics.
If the TSA were providing an actual service, they would be present at train stations and bus stations.

They ARE providing an actual service - let sex-crazed guys grab attractive women's breasts: http://www.clickorlando.com/news/25902334/detail.html
Edit: Ok, that may not have been the best wording - I apologize. The article isn't totally clear, but I imagine what happened is that she was selected to go through the scanner (not everybody does I don't think, unless the metal-detector goes off or you're "selected"). And I don't think they change scanner operators based on the gender of the subject. And they've been dubbed "porno-scanners" for a reason - just change "grab" to "gape at" in my original text above...
This bit from the article is rather disturbing as well: "Colleen Moskaly went through a full body scan recently while her security agents performed a pat-down on her infant son."
Infant children REALLY need to be patted down? Really? *puke*

Most people want the wealth produced by a society with limited government distributed to them more generously by bigger government.

Aren't the pat downs done by a person of the same gender?

Honestly that lady seems to suffer from an extreme case of "unwarranted self-importance"

I'm ashamed to admit that I actually liked Napolitano when she was governor of Arizona. As head of DHS, she's a total tool.

Well it's common sense that a female will be screened by a female only, I think she's lying..
I never seen anyone being patted down by an opossite sex TSA employee..

And the people controlling the scanners? (Honest question, I don't know, but I haven't heard that they switch out for those...)

There have been reports of opposite-gender patdowns before, and I'm pretty sure it happens more than it gets reported.

They used to allow them, but I don't believe they do with the new procedures.
