I will never do it again. Takes way too much concentration.
3D movies need to go die. Once you have hologram movies let me know; until then, shove off.
Before seeing Avatar, I hadn't seen a 3D movie since JAWS 3D. I liked Avatar, but I also noticed the "concentration" factor. I think much of this comes from the focus of the objects, where you are expected to look at blue-guy's face and only see the background in your peripheral vision. If you try to focus your eyes at the wrong part of the screen, bad things happen.

well, a CG movie can be converted to 3d pretty easily, a live action movie that isn't actually filmed in 3d however....

Genuine question, have you seen Avatar in both 3D and the usual format? Because having watched it in both... the usual 2D version was to my eyes far far better, the colours seemed more vibrant, the scenery was just as gorgeous and the CGI worked as well or better.. all the while not having to wear glasses that restricted my field of vision and being able to fully focus on the movie rather than whatever was trying to leap out at me at the time.
Half a dozen of us went to see it both times and the difference was amazing, first time everyone mostly said it was interesting then spent 30 mins bitching about the 3D ruining it, 2nd time was people talking about the eye candy non stop. That, at least, is my personal experience

From what I hear the 3D in Clash of the Titans was some of the worst ever (because it was added in afterwards to sell more tickets)

Very few 3D movies have been shot in 3D. Only three live action ones I can think of at the moment aside from Avatar are Resident Evil, Piranha and Jackass.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

I saw Avatar 3D in theaters, and bought the 2D blu-ray release. I didn't mind the color issue so much - I think that's because the 3D version compensated for it. There was a difference, I'll grant that. I liked it better in 3D though, like I said earlier - it's the only time I've ever forgotten that I was sitting in a theater watching a movie.

Nothing wrong with wanting plausible plot in your movies though. I'm a fan of explosion films but I do have to ask why for certain decisions at some point.
I agree. I like plot. I just don't demand a lot of it. I like when the movie makes a half-assed attempt of at least TRYING to explain why things are the way they are. Dystopian future, world of dreams, alien planet, unobtanium floating islands and 9 foot aliens, and space folded by drug-addicted mutants... all of them work for me. This is how I manage to Really Enjoy movies like Equilibrium (gun porn!), the Matrix, Avatar, and Dune. When they throw in a really rich story (or even just a very deeply developed world, even if it doesn't show up as well in the movie, like for Dune), I eat it up like candy too, but I certainly love Exploding Shit movies.
Heck, the plot doesn't need to be original. I'm absolutely OK with cowboys in space (Serenity), ass-kicking chicks with power guns III (Aliens *), Romeo and Juliet Yet Again, and Dances with [alien] Smurfs. I liked Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, for goodness' sake. If Originality were necessary, I wouldn't enjoy watching Star Wars or The Princess Bride over and over and over and over and over and over.
The sad part is, there are some movies which are Really Really Really damned good, and that I am richer for having seen, but which I don't think I can ever watch again. Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan have some brutal scenes which are tremendously powerful, emotionally, and I don't know if I can watch them again. On the other hand, I've bought "How to tame your dragon", and could watch the Princess Bride tonight for probably the twelfth time.

Soooooooooo is anyone going to see Sucker Punch this weekend? It looks amusing despite the horrible reviews it has received. I think we're going to see Paul this weekend but this is on my "to watch" list over the next few weeks.

I might rent it once it comes out on DVD, just out of morbid curiosity, but I don't think I could justify spending 15 bucks to see it in the theaters.

Taking my boyfriend out to celebrate his first day at a new job for dinner and a movie. Pretty sure we'll go see Sucker Punch. I'm pretty excited even though the reviews aren't good.

Re: WTF is Sucker Punch?
I rarely see girl power movies, but I really like the cinemagraphic (ok, CGI) elements in this, and I will see it this weekend. (I see a movie almost ever weekend, some are good, some get panned, but hey).
For weekend movies I often goto matinees to avoid the crowd, but for big movies, I feel that crowds are part of the experience. (I could not imagine seeing something like Harry Potter in an empty theatre) I haven't decided what time of day to see this one yet.

Re: WTF is Sucker Punch?
I might wait for it to be free on cable. It doesn't interest me that much (reviews haven't been stellar either).
I did read a funny comment however when someone tried to explain how Sucker Punch's plot is deeper than Inception. The persons response was
Saying Sucker Punch is better than Inception is like saying Mac and Me was better than E.T.
It just made me laugh because I've experienced the horrific movie known as Mac and Me.

Re: WTF is Sucker Punch?
O.K. here is my basic take away from the movie, sans spoilers:
The movie is good, total nerd bait that delivers to some extent, it is worth your hard earned monies. Lots of action, awesome cinematography, etc. The thing that really pulls it together is how the soundtrack is employed in the film. I can not stress this enough, the movie is good but the soundtrack is AWESOME!
TL;DR: Go see it
