What gear is needed for the first couple of instances?
My friends and I want to try for server first (85). At the moment, we're on a bad server, it was better when we played on it during vanilla/BC/Beginning Wrath, but not anymore. The ratio is 1:4 for every Alliance to Horde, so it'll be more trouble questing than instancing we think.
Anyways, this is our setup:
-Rogue -3.5k DPS (He's getting geared again also)
-Mage -8k DPS
-Warrior DPS -8k DPS
-Druid heals
-Pally Tank
We want to try to do this with no CC for trash. Is this possible? I've been watching http://www.mmowned.com/forums/world-of- ... ation.html but this guy really isn't using CC. I mean, some light CC isn't even possible. We are going for 0 CC. Just AoE DPS.
Is this possible with my crappy gear? I just got back after a long hiatus, so I'm in hateful~furious gear for my Ret set (Slowly getting wrathful), and meh for my tanking set. I mean, I haven't tanked since the beginning of Ulduar to be honest. So much has changed.
My stats for my tank set are as follows:
37.4k HP unbuffed
23k armor
Dodge - 20.49%
Parry - 15.99%
Block - 21.00%
It's pretty bad, but still. I want to know the BARE minimum to tank without CC on trash or even just tank the bosses in general.

That seems to me, that I might not need CC if my gear is good enough. All I need to know now, is what kind of gear do I need?

I'd be interested in this as well. I'm not going for any server firsts, but I am likely going to be farming instances at first instead of questing.
My gear is a mix of Nax 25 and Badge gear.

He doesn't have that much CC to work with. Sap & Sheep is all. And aoe DPS will go faster, which he needs to aiming for server firsts

Not much to work with? In a 5men sap and sheep are all you need.

But is that all you need for these new instances? And do you REALLY need them? IE, are we going to be camping Trade LFG Mage & Rogue for CC just to run these instances?

2 cc in a 5 man is quite ok. Ok the last one dps could also be a cc class. Perhaps the healer, too but unless you use a shaman, druid roots are the best cc you get unless from the healer you are in an instance with undead and sheep wouldn´t work then. Or you have hex from a resto shaman.

Or a hunter, or a shaman, or a ret pally, or a druid ...
Lots of options for CC classes in instances now.

When I was playing my warlock in BC, I would use two CC's on my own. Banish, seduce, fear kite, whatever. Don't get stuck in the mentality of "Only mages and rogues can CC." It's horribly untrue.

Forgot about locks. Been sooo long since I played my own, or needed CC. Fear can get messy though, Banish and/or seduce is usually cleaner.

Shit, man... Bro-lock can fear kite one mob, banish one, seduce one, and DPS-kite another with CoEx.
All mages can do is sheep and QQ.

I've only ever met one lock who could actually pull that off. And she did, often. Then she traded her lock in for a mage in Wrath.

Not if they have this!
for the work-impaired:
- Code: Select all
Glyph of Fear
Major Glyph
Classes: Warlock
Requires Level 25
Item Level 25
Use: Permanently teaches you this glyph.
Your Fear causes the target to tremble in place instead of fleeing in fear, but now causes Fear to have a 5 sec cooldown.

Nice glyph!
Does Fear have diminishing returns on NPCs or just PCs?
