WTF is Sucker Punch?

So we went to see Due Date tonight, and one of the trailers was for Sucker Punch, which basically looks like a live action version of every anime cliché ever. I assumed it was based on some comic or manga or something but... it looks like it's actually an original script.


Anyone know wtf this is?

Looks intriguing. Story is simple enough - girl in mental institution in the 1950s imagines alternate reality in which a lot of CGI happens.

I like the look of it (I cheated and saw the trailer on YouTube).

The special effects, that they showed at least, look over-the top to the point of being cheesy.

i watched the trailer on youtube, and am left scratching my head as well
like it matters though, i wont to see this movie now, just to see how sadly cheesy it turns out to be

edit: just watched another trailer, this looks like it could be a interesting movie...
let me just say 15 ft tall iron samurai wielding a size appropriate mini-gun.... and the main chara is leaping onto it

It looks like they took a toybox, filled it with toys and left it on a paint shaker for a couple hours to mix them thoroughly, then got wasted and dumped the whole thing onto film reels at random.

I guess they're shooting for the CG/fantasy version of The Expendables.

Having the movie play out in a dreamworld of a mentally unstable girl, really sets no limit on to what you can do with special effects, it doesnt have to look realistic, in fact it shouldnt.
You can do all crazy stuff to just make it look awesome.
Not sure if there will be any "real" story in the movie, maybe smth like she is trying to break free from her insanity or whatever, but im pretty sure it doesnt have to be eather.
Scott pilgrim vs the world is such an awesome movie, and its not even trying to be a "realistic" movie, but it does what its suppose to do, and none cares its not realistic.
Sucker punch could be the same way since it doesnt have the restrictions most other movies have to follow.

From what I understand, most of the movie takes place in the mental patient's imagination. What they're wearing isn't all that important when they're gunning down orcs and unicorns with M16s.

This movie looks awesome. I'm always down for intentionally nonsensical brutality.

It looks more like modified Navy dress blues:


I can't really find a good picture of them, since the Navy switched to suit dress like the rest of the armed forces branches, but that should give you a general idea if you've never seen one before.
