I admit to a certain amount of dark humour about this. A while back, the Protection talent design seemed to be more or less begging us to use Word of Glory with heavier and heavier incentives. And now the PotI nerf and then this...

Perhaps it's a mistake, perhaps it's a 100% nerf to the ability or perhaps it's a stepping stone to a much larger change to WoG use/functionality for Protection. I look forward to some additional testing and information both from Blizzard as well as from people on PTR.

I will be hoping though that it's not just a straight up nerf.

Well it only increases the healing done on yourself, so not quite. This just seems to try to prevent overheal spamming yourself and insentivise a decision between WoG and ShoR, but it just seems simply lame. We are really starting to see how the argument of suck or OP is really coming true.

See that's what people keep saying. You can't spam the shield. You still have to wait til the current 6 second gbtl buff is over to use it again.

The prot tree is so underwhelming and this nerf just makes it worse. If SotT is really becoming 1 point then I struggle to find 31 points that are good.

Which then gives you a "choice", which was one of the design goals of the new trees to begin with. Truthfully, none of the talents in the trees are "bad", you have a choice as to which you want to take to meet your needs.

As for the GbtL change, I'm indifferent. It was over the top already in that it could single-handedly change the rotation once threat wasn't an issue, and when you figure the absorbs into the equation, the amount of self-healing was beyond absurd.

The other option would have been to remove the Holy Shield interaction with the talent, which would have made more sense with the previous Holy Shield model (15% block chance) but it still works with the current, as then you would have been presented with a (slightly) more interesting choice as to whether or not to use WoG. Regardless, I'm sure the amount of QQ would be equivalent.

Well, I think there's some people on this site who confuse 'not OP anymore' automatically with 'suck'. Balance doesn't mean "I'm better than everyone or it's wrong."

Actually, after looking again, they nerfed a couple other self-heals, too. Not just tank stuff.

Please be careful forming opinions based on data-mining.

We changed rank 1 of Guarded by the Light to provide the Holy Shield functionality and buff Word of Glory a little bit. Rank 2 provides the overheal shield functionality and buffs Word of Glory a bit more.

Which is interesting, since the GbtL change doesn't really change the amount we can self-heal for, it just prevents us from wasting it.

<edit> Interesting change, but it probably makes sense. Still, in a WoG build you'd take 2/2 anyhow. I was taking 1/2 in my "balanced but mostly threat" build just to keep the Holy Shield uptime, which doesn't change. I'm not sure that this adjustment really accomplishes anything.
