So, realistically what's the time frame we're looking at for a legitimate server first 85 attempt? Cataclysm comes out Tuesday @ midnight and I have my math final on Friday morning. Can it be done in that time frame? I'd really like to take a shot at this.

It'll likely be completed within 48 hours.

Well, if "midnight on Tuesday" means one minute past 11:59pm, Monday Dec 6th, that's perfect. That'd be level 85 around midnight between Wednesday & Thursday. My math midterm isn't until 6pm on Thursday so it lines up perfect. Maybe I'll give this a go!

I don't intend to try for server first 85, but I do have my eye on server first Ironforge Dwarf. A less competitive achievement on a lower pop server could be doable, it'll just be about what people are playing.
If I get the time off work, Cataclysm launches at 8am local time. Hehe.

I plan to just straight grind for the 48 hours. If I'm successful, that would net me:
1st level 80
1st level 80 draenei
1st level 80 paladin
Any others?

Yeah, sorry. I was hit by Nozdormu's breath weapon right before I typed that. I meant 85s across the board.

Blizzard has officially announced at BlizzCon that:
- You will be able to pre-load Cataclysm, buy it entirely online through their upgrade site and play it the second it goes live
- They will be switching on Cataclysm at Midnight PST (presumably globally)
Well, there goes my cunning plan. Looks like I'll be at work when Cataclysm hits.

I don't remember hearing that at all, when did they announce that? Midnight PST is... err 10 am European servers time... so 3 am for me... Well that's kinda dumb if they're doing that. Or would this not affect European servers? Seems kind of inconvenient to have a midnight release for Cataclysm PST, and apply it globally.

I assueme he meant globally in US, so that all time frames would have a single release, but I honestly don't see why that should apply to European servers, we always had the release at our midnight.
I'm just more tempted every day to avoid going to the launch event, travel time plus the fact that the UK release is an hour behind are seriously making me reconsider my options.

This may be a random question, but if anyone had SC2 predownloaded, do you remember roughly how soon before the launch the download was available?
Reason I ask is that I leave for the US on holiday on the 20th of Nov, and the preorder is available now, just wondering if that means I can also get the download done now before I leave and not have to waste time trying to get the wifis to download it after I leave.
Nvm, trawling through the WoW forums got my question answered. Credit Card Payment Ho!

Ah, so we're getting a midnight (well, 2AM here) release, after all. Back to my original evil Herbalism plan, then.

I'm IN LOVE with this announcement to pre-release the download for Cataclysm for pre-orders bought online and to activate it at midnight server time. Midnight server release time is 6 pm Monday evening for me, which means I'll be coming home from work on Monday, fresh and ready to play for hours EASILY. No getting drowsy for me a few hours in, since by the time I'll have been playing for six hours, it'll only THEN be midnight for me and six am server time. \o/
