StarCraft II - Ghosts of the Past
Couple days old now, but just ran across it myself. New trailer for SC2, focusing on the storyline. Arnock attempted to necro the Beta thread to post this, but I think it needs some more views.

I love this trailer. Watched it like 3 times in a row.

It's so epic that I HAVE to include in my first Let's Play video on youtube.

My wife and I talk about how they should make a full movie (a la Final Fantasy). Though I guess it's easier to pack a bunch of awesomeness into 2-4 minute clips than a full 90 minute story.

If they'd do a full-length movie with the quality and content of their cinematics since around SC1 they'd put Pixar and the rest of the industry giants to shame. Too bad that warcraft movie will be using human actorsIo.Draco wrote:You can say all you want about Blizzard, they know to make epic cinematics.

If Blizz tried to make a movie of the same quality of their cinematics, the movie would be released right next to Duke Nukem Forever.

So here is an LP from me about Starcraft 2 on Brutal. Quality is still crap atm though.

Brutal really doesn't fuck around. Been playing on Normal and it's been pretty fun. Not too challenging but not hand-holdingly easy.

Re: StarCraft II - Ghosts of the Past
Enjoying it as well, takes some adjustment on my part though, probably because I'd picked up Warcraft III again recently, and Starcraft works pretty differently. But it's cool to be back to a bit more of an older style of RTS where you aren't just piloting a small group of high power units. I'm thinking of upping the difficulty I'm playing on a bit though, I'm kind of stomping the game to bits when playing on Normal; got all the achievements for the missions I've done without even really trying all that hard (Obviously excepting the achievements that require a higher difficulty).
I also like the in between mission talks and such, and they've done well on making sure that the campaign isn't just an endless series of "build forces and stomp opponent's base".
Edit: Also seems I was right in the other thread about saving €10 by being able to pick it up for €50, I looked up the price on the Blizzard website for Starcraft II before I entered the activation code in my box and they had it for €60.

Re: StarCraft II - Ghosts of the Past
Talking about difficulty, I'm playing on hard atm and it's kind of hit and miss. On a few missions I've had to do them twice but usually they aren't too bad and some are even nearly zero effort. Though I've done about 5-6 missions so that could change. Chasing trains at maximum difficulty should be fun
[edit]
For an average/new RTS player hard will likely be quite a challenge. I used to beat the AI at it's hardest setting in original SC pretty much every time, on some maps I could play 1vs2 and still beat them.
Last night before getting to bed I looked around in the menus and found something very interesting there. They have added a whole lot of challenges where you need to choose what mobs to counter with what other mobs to be as efficient as possible. There are several such challenges for every race and it should give pretty good idea what to do in multiplayer as well.

Re: StarCraft II - Ghosts of the Past
I just finished up a session and I tried the first two missions on casual (first only), then normal, and then hard. For me, normal seems the way to go
I stopped at the escort mission for the colony, I was going to switch it up and go for the artifact first when they allowed you to choose, but I just couldn't leave those poor bastards to die. I got cocky and went off the path to the right, big mistake, I ran all my attack units into a zerg colony, I hate those damned thing that can grab far away. This is my first Starcraft game and I'm having fun, so that's all that counts.

Re: StarCraft II - Ghosts of the Past
So in playing through the campaign for a few hours, I've discovered that I'm worse at Starcraft 2 than I ever was at Starcraft 1. It's also safe to say I was about 100% terrible at SC1. Fun game though.
