I've tried Taulukko recently, and it's pretty fine. Beats just about every browser-based rpg center i've met

To be honest, it is often very difficult to know when you are joking.

I solve that by just assuming Minnerva is joking until told otherwise.

Digression aside, anyone have any bizzare or outre stories of their gaming groups? I will post a few after I deal with the sheer awesome that is breakfast.

Hooray story time

DM of Gaia: Ok!
DM of Gaia: SO, last time, on Beyond Ragnarok...
DM of Gaia: The evil lich, Vladislav Chernovsky, took umbrage at
Vasily's insolent and disrespectful attitude
DM of Gaia: And ripped his consciousness right out of his body,
stealing it for his own nefarious purposes
DM of Gaia: No longer welcome at the research dungeon, the rest of
the party, along with Vasily's catatonic but still mobile body, quickly
fled...
DM of Gaia: And since then has been trying to figure out what
happened
DM of Gaia: With the aid of General Bodrashov
DM of Gaia: Meanwhile, in Acheron...
DM of Gaia: brb water boiling
DM of Gaia: Meanwhile, in Acheron, Vasily's mind, enclosed in a
magical shell, has been probed and scoured by Chernovsky and three other
powerful spellcasters, members of the Cult's inner circle
DM of Gaia: Apparently the subject of some as-yet-unclear
experiment, Vasily has been forced into a deal with Chernovsky:
DM of Gaia: Cooperate, or never be reunited with his corporeal body.
DM of Gaia: Now Vasily's mind is becoming increasingly unstable; he
has been transferred into a shadow-iron golem.
DM of Gaia: What is next on the agenda, no one knows...
DM of Gaia: So, we'll begin with the rest of the party.
DM of Gaia: Given all that you have learned
DM of Gaia: Is there a plan of action yet? What is your next move?
Nikolai: imo vasily is more trouble than he's worth; let's go
shopping
Sven: lol.
DM of Gaia: Can't argue with that logic.
Nikolai: <_<
Vasily: It's true.

this one also made me giggle on re-reading it

DM of Gaia: Make Whole fails to affect the sapphire.
Nikolai: do I know why?
DM of Gaia: Yes
Albrecht: so while I'm sure individual bits of sapphire are of
trivial value... in quantity should be worthwhile
DM of Gaia: You failed your SR check.
Nikolai: ...
Nikolai: That... bothers me.
Sven: way to suck.
Nikolai: 1. Make Whole is Hamrless
Nikolai: 2. Why does this Sapphire have SR if it is devoid of
enchantment
Nikolai: what does my considerable knowledge have to say on this
topic
Sven: it is a sapphire golem
DM of Gaia: Those are all fine questions, though I should note that
things don't have to have auras of any sort in order to have spell
resistance or immunity
DM of Gaia: ^-- is a thing your considerable knowledge says, btw
Nikolai: do sapphires normally have SR?
Nikolai: or immunity?
DM of Gaia: lol
DM of Gaia: no?
Albrecht: think it's worth pinging the prayer beads and trying
again?
Nikolai: do sapphires sometimes have SR?
Nikolai: or immunity?
DM of Gaia: No sapphires normally are inert objects
Boris: something is amiss here
Nikolai: like say sapphires mined on the Plane of Fuck you
Nikolai?
Nikolai: or something?
Boris: one of my favourite planes
DM of Gaia: Well if there were such a plane, then sapphires mined
there would have precisely the properties that would most inconvenience
Nikolai
Nikolai: I dont' care for it myself
DM of Gaia: And if that meant spell resistance or immunity
Albrecht: so despite the fact that the sapphires appear to have
lost their enchantment upon being smashed...
DM of Gaia: Then, well
DM of Gaia: You know.

how do I (as a player) deal with it in a way that isn't "no I won't play with you"?

To be honest, why would you travel with a bindlestiff when you find out his real activities?

My trouble came when my PC would have really no way to notice such screwing. "Hey, have you seen my ____?" is about the only symptom. He was observant, but my spot / sense motive / etc checks were only average, compared to the bindlestiff's (hehe) super-tricked-out sleight of hand and stealth skills, for example.

He'd to random cool-if-you're-evil things like stab our NPC friends and throw them overboard, and then claim that they fell out in the rapids, or pocket gems and the like when looting chests or bodies -- and our characters would generally never know, even if we'd been (and were) rolling perception/etc checks in protest.

Frankly, I liked that our GM gave us the latitude to do things like that. PC vs PC fighting was pretty much verboten, though, which I admit I have mixed feelings about -- it's exploitable, but also rules out the "I caught you stealing, I am now going to punch you in the face" reaction that one would expect from a warrior or barbarian. I was much more concerned with the fact that I couldn't figure out how to deal in-game with what was effectively a character tailor made for griefing, since my in-game resources for catching him (let alone suspecting him) were slim.

These days my characters aim for relatively high sense-motive and similar skills for precisely this reason. ;) I figure that even if I can't catch him in the act, I could get a GM to approve taking 10 or something on a check to become suspicious, or something.

The real takeaway is, though: don't play with griefers. If they're being dicks to you, IMO a good solution is to tell them out of game that you'd prefer them not to be jerks like that.

I always viewed most RPG characters as "murderous hobos" for their activities and traveling lifestyle!

Haha, I love the term. Thanks.
<Murderous Hobos> sounds like a fantastic adventuring company name. :D
