Consumeable EH?

Postby dmok » Mon Feb 22, 2010 6:19 am

Recently in our guild the question came up as to which flask combination provides more EH -- the flask of stoneblood, or guru/protection combination.

I took a look around, but couldn't actually find anything on it in either the basic or advanced tanking forums. A link to anything describing it would be much appreciated.

Don't think your going to get a completely satisfactory answer because the relative value of armor is up for debate and getting redefined by certain theory crafters as to its real value in raiding situations. (ie when heals get mixed in)

In a physical fight with no magic damage, the answer should still be the stoneblood. Factoring 11 armor to 1 point of stamina. So that would be some 96 stamina v. 1300 health.

20 stam + 20 agility (40 armor) + 800 armor v. 1300 health
96 stamina v. 1300 health
96 stam (with kings/talents) = something like 1164 health
1164<1300

If you outgear the fight though, and the stamina isn't doing anything extra for you, there is nothing wrong with the elixir route.

Thanks for your help.

The discussion came up when one of our other tanks mentioned that for the first time in ICC, Stoneblood was finally the preferred flask for Festergut. It seems to me that if any fight would prefer the extra armor from the Guru/Protection combo it WOULD be Festergut over just flat health.

I would think, especially now with the possible changes to our EH formulas, that Armor would contribute more than just the literal number it is. And seeing as how Festergut is the prime fight where our bonus armor and armor trinkets shine, it should be a no brainer that more is better. Heck, isnt the value of adding more armor highly dependent on your current amount of armor?

If that is the case, I would expect that Mighty Agility + Protection + Blackened Dragonfin + Indestructible Potion to be the top consumable set for that one fight (and perhaps Saurfang and BQL as well)

No, this is exactly why armor has diminishing returns. Each point of armor gives the same amount of damage reduction no matter what your current armor value is.
