Depending on what you're using for unit frames, you can set them to show the pets health bar color according to its happiness.

As far as I know, there isn't a way for Power Auras to track it since there isn't a spell ID.

I find the unit frame stuff unreliable. I have the pet happiness icon in Pitbull4, and it almost always shows unhappy regardless of how happy my pet actually is.

Sounds like you should check whether you're using the latest version of Pitbull.

Edit: after spamming Mend Pet for a while, it seems I may have had my problem backward. The unit frame icon started changing from unhappy upward, while the pet's stats page continued to show the big green smily face.

I stopped reading here. You have zero right to complain about a display bug in something like a unit-frame mod if you're using an outdated version.
