I am a big fan of Jack yelling, "I will destroy you!" as I see her shockwave tosses like 5 dudes in the air.

Awesome cake!

I finally got ME2 on Monday, but I'd been prepping myself for the prior week by playing through ME1 to try and get a lvl60 character to import. (I failed, with a level 56 being my best shot.)

I was struck by how different the game feels. Better graphics, different combat, a complete excising of the inventory system, and the Mako is rusting in a crater where it belongs. The only thing that tells you it's a Bioware game is the massive amounts of dialogue options, other than that, it could be another squad-based third-person shooter. And I don't think that's a bad thing.

Playing a Paragon legacy character, it was great to catch up with people I'd encountered in the first game, it actually strengthened my attatchment to the game. Despite there being little mechanical benefit to importing, it's still worth doing imo so you can see the effect your character's had on the universe.

Does everyone play paragon... I feel like I am the only one who plays renegade sometimes...

Of all the Bioware games that included a morality system, the Mass Effect series has probably done the best to not make the moral choices into "saint vs psycho" but I still lean towards Paragon. I have done Renegade playthroughs of ME1, and my other high-level character from ME1 is Renegade, but my instincts always lean towards Paragon.

I'd rate my playthrough of Mass Effect 1 as somewhat Han Solo-esque (as cliche as that is). Majority Paragon, but not maxed and with a healthy dose of Renegade thrown in (my character didn't suffer fools lightly, and *spoiler* let the council die for example). Although it doesn't have an explicit morality system, my first playthrough of Dragon Age is turning out similarly.

I tend to play through these games as basically a good guy with a strong Objectivist streak. I reason that since I'm the only one who can save the country/world/universe, that petty little things like property rights don't apply to me. I will therefore happily scam merchants, nick anything that isn't nailed down and ask for rewards from anyone who looks like they can afford it. There's no point in other people accumulating wealth if they're going to be overwhelmed by the evil and insidious forces of darkness after all, is there?

Just got ME1 last night, played from 8 until 5 in
the morning.

I've picked paragonesque dialog my entire life in games
like this, but this time I'm making myself go as renegade
as I can stand. It's turning out to be about 1/2 renegade
lines, 1/3 neutral and 1/6 goody-goody.

I'm actually pretty impressed with the writing of the
renegade side; it's pretty far from being evil. Most
of the time you're just blunt and lacking in empathy,
with forays into ruthlessness. :)

This is in contrast to way too many games with morality
mechanics, where the dialog options go something like
Mister, could you help me find my puppy? He's the only friend I have since the Reavers killed Sally and Mom.

* Dry those tears, little one, and stay close. We'll find him together.
* Goodbye.
* Your larynx will make a fine ****-ring, brat. Die! Die! Die!

On the down side, heavy armor makes Athena's bum look fat. :(

Have been playing this for the past 2 days and something seemed subtly wrong, then today it struck me, all the women don't have massively overinflated chests.....
Is that allowed in rpg's?

That's it. I don't care how amazing the game is, if the female characters are defying the laws of physics with their chests I'm not interested.

The Greatest RPG (/adventure) series of all time is, without a doubt, Quest for Glory. Just picturing those sweet EGA graphics makes me tear up a bit.
