Consecration in 2.1

What rank of Consecration are you guys using now that the coefficient for downranking was nerfed? I noticed my rank 1 does about half of what it used to, although that might still be okay for the sake of AOE tanking. Especially with mana being more of a premium with the SA nerf, are you guys sticking with rank 1?

At what rank do you no longer experience a penalty due to downranking?

Well, you shouldn't experience a penalty at rank 5. I was actually going to post this, but I've found that the spell damage provided by judgement of the crusader isn't effected by the downranking penalty - so I'm still using rank 1.

Exactly, My Rank 1 hits for about 45 a tick wich is enough exept in extreme cases.. (With JotC)

I was using R4 last night to try and conserve mana...I'll try R5 tonight.

agreed >.< i havent used lower ranks either..

I'm always in heroics or raids tho.. so mana isnt an issue as long as im taking a healthy amount of dmg

I always use rank 3 in regular instances and heroics and it seems to me to be the sweet spot for threat versus mana conservation.

I use max rank consecrate and have rank 1 on my hot bar. most of the time I want the threat when I lay it down, every so often I just want a tic of -something- to get the mob to attack me and to keep aoe adds off the healer.


when I'm low on mana and don't want to use consc for threat gen I usually find holy shield alone sufficient, but then again I have yet to try heroics or raids.

I ran BM quite a few times after the patch and was able to use Rank 1 to hold the adds over healing aggro pretty well. In my tanking gear it does around 37'ish dmg per tick (read: 5 man tanking gear).

So the nerf is annoying, but it still seems usable in some situations. I still need to do some testing in SH and SL though as I used rank 1 there a lot.

I currently have a macro that casts max rank Consecrate on a standard press, and rank 1 on an Alt-press. (I have a similar macro for Holy Shield too, very useful.)

I was thinking that I could just update the macro From rank 1/max to 5/max, and go from there.

But now I hear that Rank 1 is still useful in the single target / JotC case.

I've been using rank 3 to get around 120tps. After 2.1 I dipped below 100tps on rank 2 so I upranked.

I find rank 1 works wonders in BM where mana conservation helps. Still I also use it for rogues, especially the times I played AB and was guarding the nodes. Of course, I don't PvP much at all, but I have a little.

So add Rank 1 to the same macro as a shift-press or something.

ive never down ranked either....but i have to hit 70 fast and do heroics and kara lol
