How much def is too much

I wouldn't worry about it as you have limited control over how much you have. Think I have between 565 and 585 (Edit 600+ for Anub adds set)atm depending on gear set and that's without any gemming for it. If you're still using defence enchants on chest and shield, you can take those off for stats/health and health/BV for instance.

It's just a function of the stat allocation to gear at the moment.

At least there's no defence on my new 'Last Word' though - going to play with that for a bit.
