Losing PoJ

Postby Voldiir » Sun Aug 02, 2009 6:36 pm

I usually try to spec in the way of Defense > Threat > Utility. But in 3.2, this means I'll probably have to give up PoJ. I mean... realistically, PoJ doesn't add much in the way of anything other than flavor. I like to run fast. I've always told myself it was to make up for the lack of a charge. And without being able to use exorsism on the move anymore, I feel it's even more important. The problem is, I don't see how I can justify keeping PoJ when there are really, a lot better things to put points into. Like Vidication.

This is what I'm planning on speccing come 3.2:

I may revert back to 4/5 Benediction instead of getting HotC. It depends how many Ret pallies I've got around. Not that that change is a big one... But not having PoJ just... makes me sad. Will anyone else miss it?

No, because most of us will be taking it along with 3/3 Crusade.

There was a graph somewhere on this site... SotP will trump the Crusade spec iirc. Or no?

Barely. This is the post you're thinking of. For Ulduar, SotP will be slightly better than a 1V+3C build, but for most of the bosses in the new raid instance Crusade will be twice as effective, tipping the scales in the favor of any spec with Crusade in it.

Personally, I'm going to stick with 53/18, picking up PoJ and Vindication. That's the "1V+3C" spec on that chart.

That graph applies to mobs that aren't humanoid, undead, demonic or elemental.

Also the difference wasn't big in SotPs favour, yet on the new stuff the 3% from crusade specific mob types is much much bigger.

2 vind, 1 conv, 2 PoJ, 3 Crusade will be my talents too.
And i'll keep 3 HotC rather than any in benediction as i dont ever oom so the points are useless anyway (maybe on vezax if i'd spam concecrate on every cd) and Ret isn't allways on my target full time, or dies, or isn't in raid so HotC is attleast sometimes useful.

I've done all of Ulduar and most the Hard Modes ... and I've never used PoJ in any of my builds... Get the speed / Stam enchant and you are solid. Wasted points IMO

What are you getting instead?

In my build PoJ comes at the cost of 2% crit

So basically I trade 7 stam and faster run speed then boot enchant for 2% crit (edit I dont pay attention when i type)....seems like a solid trade

2% crit doesn't translate to 2% threat; it's far less.

If you're not taking it in your Ret builds at the very least, you're doing your guild a disservice. Most theorycrafters agree that movement speed is a huge DPS boost on any fight that requires movement, and classes that can't talent into it view the boot speed enchant as mandatory (e.g. moonkins).

Similar arguments can be made for it being useful to prot as far as closing distance and repositioning bosses faster, though we do have ranged taunts to help with that. But I hardly think it's fair to say that the "PoJ vs. boot enchant vs. nothing" debate has any clear-cut "winner."

In PoJ defense, at least we CAN talent for it. A great deal of my raiders, dps and healers alike have had to enchant for + run speed just to get a better leg up when moving from things in Ulduar (plus the extra health never hurt.)

Even with the run speed enchant, I'm still 7% slower than normal.

No way I'm dropping PoJ, EVAR, had it in my tanking build during TBC and still got it now.

Oh no, never gonna let you go!
