[Ret-PVE] T7 and T8 set bonuses

Postby Drae » Fri Jun 26, 2009 8:41 am

Lately I've been paying a bit more attention to my ret gear, and I have a question to ask.

I have 4 pieces of T7.25, which I use along with my Obsidian Greathelm (and my PvP weapon haha). On Patchwerk tonight I managed to pull 4.6k DPS, and I'm pretty damn sure that was about as high as I can go with my current gear which is not bad, but not particularly special either.

Anyway, I've managed to pick up the T8 helm and the T8.25 gloves. Will breaking my T7 4-piece bonus and losing my Obsidian Greathelm be worth it to gain the 2-piece bonus from the T8?

On it's own, the T8 helm seems quite inferior, and I'd be losing stats by using it. The T8.25 gloves on the other hand seem like a decent enough upgrade.

Help!

Obsidian Greathelm is far superior to T8 helm. Don't forget that it's ilevel 226, which puts it on par in terms of item points with all Ulduar non-hardmode loot.

It's probably not worth it. Wait until you get a better piece of T8 to swap in.

Depends on the rest of your gear. I'd recommend to try out RAWR and find out what it calculates with your gear options.

I gave it a go, and it seems to think what I have at the moment is best for me (assuming I'm using it correctly, it's a little complicated).

Thanks for your advice as well Lore :)

Edit: Played around a bit with the optimizer in Rawr, it tells me that using my T8.25 gloves then replacing any other slot with T8/8.25, except my helm, would be a DPS upgrade.

T8.5 (226) gloves are super good. I'm currently rocking T8.5 gloves and chest, T8.0 legs and shoulders, and Obsidian Greathelm. I'll probably grab the T8.5 legs before too long, though I have no idea when we might get to Yogg on 25s, so I'm probably stuck with the 8.0 shoulders.

Obsidian Greathelm is far superior to T8 helm.

Only if you need the expertise. Its a solid peice though, for sure. Was by far best in slot before ulduar came out.

Steelbreakers embrace (chest) + 4Pc T8.5 is what you should be striving for until you are clearing hardmode 25s.

What is good about Steelbreaker's + 4pc T8.5? It doesn't seem better to me than Obsidian Greathelm + the other 4 pieces. Is it just that the other 4 pcs combine with 25-man hard mode loot well?

because it works with other gear pieces available without hard modes. Most notably, Earthshaper and Blood of the Old Gods / Pyrite Infuser.

I'm shooting for the Guise of the Midgard serpent. It's the 10 man raiders Obisidian Greathelm.

Obsidian Greathelm + other 4 pieces has too much hit given the other gear pieces available. It's workable, just not as good as Steelbreaker's.

Oh wow, my thread got revived.

Anyway, my gear has come a long way pretty quickly so my original question is a thing of the past (currently clearing all hard modes except Algalon/Yogg+0). Now rocking 4 pieces of T8.5, as well as the T8.0 shoulders. One thing I've noticed is that I have had an overabundance of hit ever since getting my chest and legs, then Earthshaper got added to the mix, so I've been trying to replace hit with other stats where possible, but it seems to just be a case of obtaining something to replace a piece of tier gear and rejuggling around it. Apparently certain pieces of leather are an upgrade so those have to be considered as well.
