Average tankadin

Postby Angelike » Wed Jul 15, 2009 4:21 am

Hi guys,

I will start this post as many other, with saying i'm new to tanking.
I got bored of ret and thought i would try something else for a while as OS.

I belive i have managed to get pretty decent gear now, but with decent i mean average gear.
I could need some advice how to proceed, what would be my next step.

Even tough i got (imo) decent gear, i still feel i take to much damage, is my avoid to low,
should i aim to be uncruchable, and if so, what could i replace, should i drop some stamina,
to get other stats?

I don't have any problem with mana, (probably because the healer has to heal me non stop) :D
And i feel i'm on top of the pulls etc, its just gear/gem wise, i need some advice.

During my visit on this site, i also read a couple of threads regarding Talent specs, so thats
the first thing i will look into when i get home from work, and try out some different specs.

Feel free to take a look at my armoury and leave a comment.

Thanks in advance

Armory isn't loading for me so I'll give you a nice rundown.

Get 540 Defense and a roughly standard spec. If you have the gear for that, then you'll be fine to tank heroics, after a few heroic pieces of gear, you'll quite easily be able to at least offtank Naxx.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
I have 545 Defence and +28k unbuffed, which i belive is average. :)
My real question is, what should i do next to get better.

Should i mix block gear with threat gear, or should i try to collect several different sets now?
My idea is to get gear, so i can easily MT Naxx 10, and probably 25 aswell.
How much difference is it between MT and OT gear, when you look at my gear, would
you consider me ready to MT Naxx raids. (when armoury is up again).

Thanks

Edit:
And some people is talking about 102.5, what is that? :D

If you want to be a MT, you will most likely have multiple sets of gear. Different fights have different requirements, and it's your job to be prepared for them.

Most tanks have an avoidance set, an Effective Health set, and possibly a block set (for trash). You will find that tanking brings out the pack rat in people.

102.4% is required to push unblocked blows off of the combat table. (what used to be uncrushable)
You must have a combined dodge/parry/miss and block (with holy shield up) of 102.4% to guarantee that you will block every hit. It's not a huge deal anymore, but it's nice to have. Don't give up too much health to get it though. by the time you start gearing up with naxx 25 or ulduar gear you will have it without even trying.
