SCT/SCTD vs. Mik's

Postby guillex » Sat Nov 03, 2007 12:05 pm

Anyone gone from one to the other, checked out the differences, found one that's better/worse than the other?

I'm thinking about making a switch over of my UI, checking out what I can play around with ... My current UI for Guillex is:

Image

Ace2
ag_UnitFrames
Aperture
AtlasLoot and extras
Auctioneer
aUF_Banzai
aUF_Layouts
AuldLangSyne
Baggins and extras
Bartender3
BeanCounter
Bonus and BtmScanner
BugSack
Bulkmail2/Inbox
Cartographer and extras
CooldownTimers2
Damagemeters
DBM and extras
Decursive
ElkBuffBars
EnhTooltip
Fizzle (no idea what this is, lol)
FuBar with a bunch of stuff
FuBarAce
FuTextures
Grid/Alert/Manabars/SideIndicatore/StatusAFK
InFlight
Informant
Omen
oRA2
Outfitter
PallyPower
Plateadin
Prat
Recount (which I can't figure out how to configure)
sct/sctd
SimpleCombatLog
Skinner
Squeeniz
Stubby
TankPoints
Tauntwarn
Threat-1.0
ThreatToKTM
WIM and extras

I really need to clean things up ... =/

Anyways ... I guess this has gone from a "what's the diff, yo?" to a "ZOMGHELPMECLEANOUTMYSHITANDSUGGESTOTHERADDONS/REPLACEMENTSTHATICAN'TLIVEWITHOUT!" post.

Sorry. :( ............................................ Help?

Firstly, I want a screen like yours. 1240*1024 ftl. :(

Back on topic. :P

Get rid of either Damagemeters or Recount. They do the same thing, but Recount does it better if you know how to use it. Since you don't, it's basically just one mega huge memory whore, so I'd get rid of it.

I'm personally a fan of Parrot for my SCT like addon. You have SOOooo many different options to configure, but you don't have to. It comes pretty much set up, if you're willing to use the default setting. :)

How do you create that bottom section on your UI? I've been wanting to do somehting like that, but can't find the correct addon for it.

That's Aperture to move the viewport up, and Skinner for the background.

I don't use Damagemeters anymore, really ... I should just drop it. What I wouldn't mind finding is a tutorial or walkthrough on how to get Recount set up properly ... or someone's profile file to do so.

Recount doesn't need setting up, just do you need that level of in-depth information on your combat statistics? =)

Recount is _VERY_ nice, it's the type of stuff that tells everyone exactly what they are doing wrong. But, it uses alot of memory if you don't reset during a raid.

It's really nice, if you die and you look at recount - scroll to the "death" tab and click your own name -> select the fight you are wondering about, and then get the combat log from 100% hp to 0%.

-Did i get crushed?
-Did i get healed?
-What did the mob hit me for?
-Who healed me?

Timestamps and all, you can basicly divide guilt for a whipe and not speculate:P

I used SCT/SCTD for a very long time. Switched over to MSBT recently.

MSBT is significantly better, in my opinion. It's easier to set it up to monitor incoming damage and heals. The best screen shot I have available at the moment is something like this:

Image

I have my incoming damage scrolling up on the right, incoming heals on the left, with damage done scrolling up in the center, and power gains scrolling down below my char. This leaves the center uncluttered so I can see what's going on.

I've recently switched to "Parrot" instead of SCT.

The problem now with SCT is that it doesn't throttle outgoing damage, so you tend to get a LOT of spam and information is lost. That's really the only thing that made me switch from it.

I'm happy with parrot right now.

I personally use SCT

I Use the following setup
-Incoming damage scrolling down the left side
-Outgoind damage scrolling down the right side
-Incoming heals/mana gains in a ranbos at the bottom of my screen
-Buffs/Debuffs/Warnings, Top/Center of my screen

It works great and isn't that spammy, also keeps the center of my screen pretty clear.

Off-Topic

fuzzygeek, what is the cooldown mod you use beside you main buttons?
I have been looking for something like that for months.

the one to the left of the bars? cooldown2

Also, another reason I really like MSBT is that it'll group up damage; if you consecrate while AOE farming, it'll say 10,548 damage (52 hits), instead of spamming 52 individual hits.

Is there any major difference between MSBT and Parrot does anyone know, I am using parrot at the moment and know it does all the things people say they love about MSBT, just kind of curious.

Ok ... well now that that's been installed I abso-fucking-lutely LOVE Mik's ... and I haven't used it in a raid yet... Just on an alt.

What's going to be fun (and a pain) is getting everything entered just right so that I have all of my info that I need in parts of the screen that I can easily access with my eyes.

Wheeeeeeee.... Anyone use Mik's and can suggest anything to add/remove/customize?

i changed the dmg treshold to like 50 or 100 i think not too sure.

it helps to avoid all that spam "supplicant hits you for 15" messages.

Have anyone else noticed MSBT bugs out when farming suplicants, and stops reporting dmg done completly?
