[10/25] Ulduar Relative Difficulty

Postby dunnark » Tue Apr 21, 2009 8:50 am

Since there are some options to skip around bosses in Ulduar I'd like to start a thread with opinions of the relative difficulty of the Bosses in Ulduar. For consistency be sure to note if your rating is based on normal-10 or heroic-25 and use a scale of 1-10 (1=PUGable - 10=Insane). If you want to rate any Hard Modes, feel free.

Here's a cut a cut and paste list to make things easy:
Flame Leviathan
Ignis the Furnace Master
Razorscale
XT-002 Deconstructor
The Assembly of Iron
Kologarn
Auriaya
Mimiron
Freya
Thorim
Hodir
General Vezax
Yogg-Saron
Algalon the Observer

Ulduar 10-
1 - Flame Leviathan
2 - Ignis the Furnace Master
1 - Razorscale
3 - XT-002 Deconstructor
2 - The Assembly of Iron
1 - Kologarn (suggested tactic: faceroll torso, use rebirth and raise ally)
2 - Auriaya (pull is a 4, rest is a joke)
6 - Mimiron
2 - Freya
1 - Thorim
2 - Hodir
4 - General Vezax
5 - Yogg-Saron
? - Algalon the Observer

Ulduar 25-
10 - Loading screen
1 - Flame Leviathan
3 - Ignis the Furnace Master
1 - Razorscale
2 - XT-002 Deconstructor
1 - The Assembly of Iron
2 - Kologarn
4 - Auriaya (due to hoping she doesn't bug out and respawn cats - supposedly fixed)
4 - Mimiron
1 - Freya
2 - Thorim
2 - Hodir
3 - General Vezax
? - Yogg-Saron
? - Algalon the Observer
EDIT: in retrospect, I could almost just figure out how many hours we spent on each boss and stick that number in.

This is my experience with the 10 man this week.

Flame Leviathan (2) Just because you can't outright zerg him, and expect to win.

Ignis the Furnace Master- Haven't done.

Razorscale (5) Once you work out the positioning, or if you have an idea of the positioning to use, she can probably be rated lower.

XT-002 Deconstructor (3) Took us 3 attempts to kill his 10 man version.

The Assembly of Iron (5) As with all multiple 'boss' fights, this is purely coordination and positioning, once you get that down, you win.

Kologarn (2) His 10 man version is stupidly easy, 3 attempts, but the first one really doesn't count as it was "Hey, what's out on the balcony... Oh crap!"

Auriaya (8) The pull for this SUCKS, and dealing with/killing requires a reasonable amount of coordination on the part of your dps, to burn it down, then STOP, til you can get it stunned away from the raid, and burst it the rest of the way down. If you exclude the pull, this probably becomes about a 3.5

Mimiron - Haven't done.

Freya (5) She really didn't seem too hard, the fight is pretty nuts from start to finish, but if you have the dps to clear each wave before the next one shows up, it's not a hard fight on the easy mode. As a side note, this is the only fight that thinking about the hard mode scares me.

Thorim (5) Once your arena tanks figure out which mobs they have to worry about, and your dps learns NOT to go full blast 100% of the time, then you can last almost indifinitely in the arena, it's just a matter of your hallway team getting things figured out.

Hodir (5) Frozen blows SUCK.

General Vezax - Haven't done.
Yogg-Saron - Haven't done.
Algalon the Observer - Obviously, haven't done =P

From tanking two 10 man groups:

Flame Leviathan - 1 (on lolmode)
Ignis the Furnace Master - 3
Razorscale - 2
XT-002 Deconstructor - 3
The Assembly of Iron - 4 (if your healers can't grasp that the dispel is more important than the heal for steelbreaker)
Kologarn - 2
Auriaya - 3 (5 pull)
Mimiron - ?
Freya - 3 (trash was more annoying)
Thorim - 4 (it'll take a few wipes for the arena group to get their stuff together)
Hodir - 4
General Vezax - ?
Yogg-Saron - ?
Algalon the Observer - ?

I will add that I would be far more likely to confidently pug a dps or two for this than I would a tank or a healer. There are a lot fights were you need to react quickly and in my experience pugs tend to freeze when they're not sure what to do, especially for healers.

25-man:
Flame Leviathan - 1
Ignis the Furnace Master - looked like a 6 pre-nerf, but we never went back to kill him
Razorscale - 2
XT-002 Deconstructor - 4 (pre-nerf)
The Assembly of Iron - 4
Kologarn - 3
Auriaya - 5
Mimiron - 9
Freya - 4
Thorim - 6
Hodir - 3
General Vezax - 6
Yogg-Saron - ???
Algalon the Observer - ???

Iron Trash - 2
Freya Trash - 5
Mimiron Trash - 5
Vezax Trash - 7

Basically we found Mimiron to be far and away the most difficult. He requires more healers, more coordination, more endurance, and more precise tank movement than anything else and has more stupid ways to kill melee than Heroic Steamvaults in 2.0.

Thorim took some work to get things balanced properly, Auriaya was all about the pull, and Vezax was just interrupters staying awake and online.

XT gave us some trouble the first night when trash was nigh-unkillable and aggroed every heart phase, and then some more trouble until we started DPSing the Heart. After the nerfs allowing snares on the robots and lowered HP he will be as easy as Razorscale.

Flame Leviathan (2) Just because you can't outright zerg him, and expect to win.

Sure you can... One of the most common achievements Tuesday night was the one for killing him without causing a shutdown, some of those were intentional but I'm sure a large portion were just folks who didn't know the fight and killed him anyway.

25 man

Auriaya - 6 ( coordination on the pull )
Mimiron - 9
Freya - 6
Thorim - 5
Hodir - 2
General Vezax - 3 ( 10 if you have crap interupters )
Yogg-Saron - NA
Algalon the Observer - NA

only did one 2h raid of 10 man, and after having beaten it on 25 man, it felt like a utter and total joke. Decon coming out of heart at 47, 22 and 2%? gg

XT 10m is hilarious for 25-man geared groups... Now that they increased the HP of the heart, you can literally skip a phase. We had him at 34% after the first heart (at which point he immediately goes into the second heart). I guess next week we'll give hard mode another shot.

yeah, the nerf is really wierd, the first week i did 10 man we had precis to 54% for the first heart phase since we blew heroism, and then we could deal with scrapbots THEN get back to the heart, did it this week and actually nearly wiped because we had so many bomb bots/scrap bots running around that people get confused

Did they nerfed Razorscale also? I think it's now a 1, last week it took dozens of tries, now we 2 shotted her in 10 man, even got the achievement of "shaved" (or something like that) we didn't let fly up more than once..same people same dps, same strat...

After seeing the post-nerf version of the fights, i'd give a 1 across the board, until mimiron and freya. those are still challenging due to lot of tactics.

We found Freya to be fairly easy, but her hard modes sure aren't.

Mimiron is now significantly easier, I'm not sure what all they nerfed but P4 is nothing like it was last week and after all our practice, the first few phases were just total pushovers. But again, hard mode looks nuts.
