Actually that's a continual subject of debate among taxonomists. Pandas have a reproduction cycle(They give birth to premature young) and DNA similar to bears. However, they are herbivores and have basically opposing thumbs. Some taxonomists put them in carnovia in family ursidae with bears. Some give them their own family, and some put them with red pandas in a family. The thing about taxonomy is it's an artificial system invented by biologists to try and make sense of life, which is completely inbred as it is and isn't playing fair.
