[25] Naxx Trash in Ret Spec but Tank Gear?

If you had a solid tanking set, could you effectively AOE tank Naxx 25 trash with a full-on Ret PVE DPS spec?

Anything special to watch out for? Are your healers going to hate you?

You could do it perfectly well, although your healers won't necessarily enjoy it.

I used to tank stuff as ret with prot gear.. The most annoying thing is that ret abilities are designed for use with 2 handers, while prot ones for 1 handers.. So your threat won't be that great.

It just isn't that fun.

It´s not half bad if you got Broken Promise. I´ve tanked trash and boss-trash (Gothik, Noth) a few times as ret, just need to stack some hideous amounts of block-rating. Ofcourse, make sure you´ve got so much defense that you can swap in your two-hander without going critable. Nothing beats tanking Gothik with a two-hander. Nothing!

I got Broken Promise last week.

I was asking because I was considering doing a Prot/Ret dual spec, so that on one tank fights, I'd just go full 2H DPS ret, and most of the rest of the time, I'd tank trash in full tank gear as ret.

On 2 tank boss fights, I could switch over to full prot spec with tank gear.


However, last night, I tried out holy as my 2nd spec, mainly because I've got a full Nax 25 holy offset......it was a BLAST. I remember holy being boring as hell.....when did the make this fantastic change?

Offtanking in Naxx as Ret works fine. Doing it in Naxx 25 never came up, but I've OT'ed all of Naxx10 as Ret (i.e. we only brought one spec'ed tank to the run).
