Since this a 3.1 discussion we should only look at this from a 3.1 view point. Out of the 5 second rule regen is getting nerfed heavily and priests will not practice such behavior.Panzerdin wrote:Actually, Priests who are healing tanks often have a lot of spare GCDs, and are getting a huge drop in skill requirement (since it's now optimal to just spam HG all day long, with perhaps the odd shield).Majiben wrote:They don't heal less often though. Healing today is not reactive. If you healers aren't using their GCDs then they're putting the tank at risk. Healers don't get to take breaks without putting the tank at risk. This talent doesn't let them take breaks.
As far as highger HP, there are more ways than one to raise hp. More stamina on tank gear is one thing, another is miodifiers. Encounters can be designed to artifically raise tank hp. Think Red beam on netherspite.
And Penance, now I come to think about it. But that isn't the point.

From what they have said the entire point of the mana regen nerfs was to make you heal smarter. Maybe Paladins can still spam their heals for a 5-10 minute fight but in the future the rest of your healer will not be able to chain cast big heals on you and small heals don't have the though put to keep you up. It sounds like the goal of the entire process was to base healing off anticipated damage where possible and make you react to damage when needed. How well the mana nerf will achieve this is not something I'd care to predict. So you are right priests won't really be looking to get out of the FSR near so much anymore but they won't be spamming heals with every GCD either.
On the original topic the basic talent spec hasn't changed all that much. It's still 0/53/6 with 3 points to play with in the first couple of tiers. What you do with the other 12 points is based on what you feel you need.

That's true, unless you want/need 2/2 SA for some reason (-1 extra to spend in that case). Seems the 3 points (for MT) either go into Divinity, or our new 11-pointer (and DG if they put it back in).

Divinity is in no way part of the basic talent set.

He didn't say that, just that Divinity is one of the options for the 3 floating points in early Prot that are part of the base spec.....which is true. Divinity or DS/DG are the most likely places for those points.
