Improved Devotion Aura
Hi,
I was fooling around with specs for in 3.1 and decided that imp. devotion aura isn't worth 3 points. Assuming that you raid with a tree druid, the +healing buff doesn't stack so it's 3 points for +602 armor.
I think I'd rather toss these points into Reckoning. I've never seen another player spec like this. Am I missing something?

Truth be told, I still think it's a valuable talent to take. Consider that sometimes the tree druid is out of range. Both of them are auras, so yes, they will overlap a large amount of the time. But it means that in mobile fights with a decent chance of people being out of range there is a bigger chance of hitting everyone with the aura. Even if you disregard that, 602 armor is a pretty significant amount, especially considering it's not just your armor, but it benefits the other tanks as well. I'd value the 602 armor just on myself more than the minimal threat increase gained from reckoning almost 100% of the time.Rastrilo wrote:Hi,

your missing the armor, and 6% healing when your resto druid goes AWOL and cries in a corner on sapp

What if you run without a resto druid this week?
What if the fight involves splitting into several groups (see Gothik and 4H in Naxx and Thorim in Ulduar) and your group doesn't have a tree?
What if you're running a challenging 10 man encounter without a tree?
Sorry if I sound a little harsh, but picking up junk DPS/TPS talents (and Reckoning is junk) at the expense of very useful (and granted, sometimes redundant) raid utility talents for a general raid tanking spec is just not a good habit.
Note that there is nothing wrong with specing max threat for a particular fight if it absolutely requires it, in which case Reckoning could be an option, but the general spec should balance individual survival and threat with raid utility, and Imp Devotion is an awesome raid utility talent for 3 points.

Reduction: 59.66%
Say that Ulduar fight: 25.000 Damage AFTER Armor. Say 60.000 Base-Damage.
Without improved Aura: Every Hit: 24588
With improved Aura: Every Hit: 24204
Difference: 384 Damage
This is not much. But see it like this. 8 Min fight, 55% Avoid, 2 Sek Attack Timer = 41.472 Damage. And a little less chance to get 3-Hitted (that is what kills you, 3 Blocks in a Row. About 75k Damage in 6 Sek (parry haste if you are truly unlucky). If you think 384 * 3 that is 1k Less Heal or 1k Less HP needed to survive that stuff. Also 4 Blocks in a Row happen

Because Imp. Devotion aura only gives out a + to armor, and trees stand in melee range all the time.

thats equivalent to 384 block value, which you dont get on a single piece of gear everyday, i wouldnt call that minor

For me, it was simpler than that. I don't have any problems keeping up threat, but I do die sometimes. Therefore, just about any increase in survivability is better than a small increase in threat.
